Right on dude. I checked them out through the link and they are pretty much what I'm looking for.

If you ride year round, grip heaters or heated gear is the way to go.

I just started riding, so I gotta get this stuff together. I plan to ride year round, unless the temps drop below freezing. I wont chance hitting ice on the road on the bike.

I ride year round too unless there's ice or a mandatory cage drive.
I paid $300 for all my gear with one controller and an additional on/off switch. The only thing I'm missing is a heated seat but they cost too much.
A full heated jacket that can replace a liner, chaps or pants, and gloves are great! I prefer gloves over grips. But I see grips in my future since they're so cheap.

I think these are the ones the previous owner had installed on my VFR. They work great and make a big difference when its cool out. I put them on low when its in the mid 50's to low 60's and on high when colder than that.

I agree. I have a half faired bike and while you can get some heat with your left hand, the throttle hand stays cold unless you also have some sort of throttle lock. Get some grip heaters or heated gloves. You will not regret it.

Well I ordered the kit from Symtec so we shall see what I get.

I got one of those under $6 delivered ebay kits with a simple on/off switch. They work great for me with the perfect heat output. When combined with hand guards and my home made heated glove liners, my hands are warm all the time. I also made jacket and pant liners too. I find that I don't use them as much as I do the glove liners though.

The kit from Symtec is installed and works great. Install was easy and straight forward. Thanks for the heads up on the kit.

I've been considering heated gear. Not sure if there is enough spare juice on the R1 to operate one, though. I would just do gloves and jacket. I am uncertain whether heated grips would keep the outside of my hands warm enough

Heated grips well well but the back of your hands will still get cold when the temps fall below freezing. It is still way better than no heat at all though. If you really want to stay warm you need to invest in some heated gear. There are some out that use a battery pack and therefore will not put a strain on your charging system.

I have Alpinestar leather gloves and the heat from the grips seems to soak through my hands into the outer side. My fingers still get cold, but no where near as bad as they used to. Its been in the 30's at night here in Savannah so I haven't been riding, black ice freaks me out.
