Since the DB was wiped we lost so much content. I'm wondering if there was a specific thread ie how-to or picture thread that you'll miss most. For me I think its the PMs. Todd sent me something and now I can't remember what is was.
I know ramm misses the original 1-word association thread.

Let me clarify something. The DB was not wiped out. I can actually still get to the DB and get data off it on an ad hoc basis. What ust isn't worth the hassle and time is repairing the db to be able to reconnect to it. So, in short, if you have REALLY important (and I mean like virtually life and death important) that you just MUST have, I MAY be able to retrieve it for you. Thanks!

The site has readjusted itself quite a number of times since me inception on this site. I wouldn't mind getting back me very first post on this site and some stuff about me first ninja. However I know that is an arduous if not impossible task, so I live in the current and look at what we now have. To me this site looks just fine and I will live with it.

the speed? seems very slow to me
Slow as hell... also the post character limit, and the time delay in-between posts

all the things we just had changed the other day!
Just thought i'd mention this real quick.
The speed was fine last night, so I don't know if it is a traffic thing or if a change was made last night.

No changes made. Probably a traffic thing with our host.

No changes. Probably a traffic issue. Keep in mind that we are on a shared server. Since our data is not as important as that on other boards, we do not have a dedicated server nor do we have any "sweet deals" as a result of the admin being an IT geek. :)

I think the "official first bike" thread was pretty informative for new riders. There may have been another sticky or two in the Noob section that might be worth porting over, too.

starting with the life and death struggles of the tag-a-rama game would be in good spirit.

The one thing that I hate loosing every time this happens is the ride reports I work on and going back and looking at those. Its always fun going down memory lane.

I do know one thing if you look say on a search engine such as Google sometimes one can find the really old GSB board back when the originators were all alive and posting. I have seen it a couple of times but I would now have to go back and look again. I am a big fan of history so I am sure I can find some of the old GSB when I get time to look.

Ever check out the Way Back Machine (http://www.archive.org/)? You can find archives for many sites...kinda neat to see what Yahoo looked like in the 90's or GSB back in early days.

I need to do that and thanks, I never heard of it before.

Dan, dont you usually post those same ride reports on other sites too? Not like theyre completely lost, if you do. Hell, half of what some of the gsb/bsb crowd posts on one site is exactly the same from site to site.

Yeah, they are on other sites too, but where would you rather send people to look at the ride reports? :)
 you said YOU enjoyed going back and going down memory lane, not where i'd send peeps to see them! ;)

nothing to miss, like stated before this has happened several times before and it always goes back to the way it was eventually. Ive actually been on here since sometime in 2005 but it crashed sometime after that and i had to reregister in 2007 then its happened a couple other times as well. no big deal.

It's not what you know. It's who you know.
You might check with your hosting provider to see if they keep backups. If they don't suck, they ought to have the entire site copied somewhere. Or if you have shell access, it's pretty easy to setup mysqldump on a cron job.
