1. You can fit 3 or 4 bikes into the space occupied by one car. Make maximum use of a small garage, buy motorcycles.

2. Motorcycles use less gas. 30 miles per gallon is on the low end and smaller engines can get triple digit mileage.

3. Motorcycles outperform cars. Sure, some exotic cars can keep up with a Hayabusa, but not many and the cost is usually 10 or 20 times the cost of the bike, or more.

4. You can rebuild a motorcycle if you're mechanically inclined, you don't have to do very much body work. Not being particularly skilled in body and paint, I appreciate this one.

5. Motorcycles cost less. Even classics and collector bikes can often be purchased for the price of a very plain used car.

6. Motorcycle riders are safer, they don't text on their phones while riding.

7. Motorcycle riding can be really cozy. If you want to be a little closer to your passenger, brake a little quicker for the next stop.

8. Motorcycle riding gets you out in the fresh air. Smell real pine trees, not the scent of a pine shaped deodorizer hanging from the mirror.

9. Motorcycle riding develops your coordination and balance. Brake and clutch levers for your hands, brake and shift gears with your feet, learn to balance at slow speeds, many drivers could never do it.

10. Best of all, there has never been a recall for unintended motorcycle acceleration.

That's a start, how many more reasons can you add?
I particularly like #7 :p

I love the anti-motorcycle rebuttal too.. particularly stating that a Hayabusa to a generic motorcycle is like a Ferrari to a generic car :)

That was lame.

Rebuttal:

1. Big deal. 4 motorcycles is like having 4 version of a Mazda 3 and two are just different colors.

2. But I can get a V6 Mustang with a better power to weight ratio than the original 1993 Cobra and it gets 31 MPG!

3. Why does every motorcycle lover quote the Hayabusa? It's like car people saying that cars are better because a Ferrari Enzo is so freakin' awesome. Meanwhile, a Toyota Camry is parked in the driveway. Get real dude, not every bike out there is a Hayabusa.

4. You can rebuild anything on a car if you are mechanically inclined as well. This is the second lamest idea in the whole list. How many of you bike owners can repaint your plastic fairings? How many of you motorcycle owners forget about Harleys which do require body work on their STEEL tanks and fenders?

5. Motorcycles cost less, yes, I'll give you that. But I would expect a vehicle that is 1/5th the size of a car to cost 1/5th as much. Less materials and labor, less cost. Kinda of a no-brainer. But then again, ever walk in to a Harley dealer? For teh cost of some of those bikes, I could buy TWO Hyundais!

6. No, they are not "safer". Texting is only one small thing. I can't count the number of times I've seen some moron on a crotch rocket doubling the speed limit on the highway or a pack of Harley riders blocking lanes of traffic and driving erratically and calling it "defensive driving". Add to that the amount of road rage the average motorcycle rider exhibits towards other vehicles, justified or not. Yeah, motorcycle riders are no safer than car drivers.

7. And make the car behind you plow you over? Yeah, you'll be REAL cozy then. I think I'd rather have a conversation with my passenger though and save the "cozy" for someplace more conducive.

8. I dunno about this one. I get tons of fresh air in the convertible. Or I just open all the windows in the truck.

9. So does playing the drums and drums are a heck of alot safer!

10. Well, can't have a recall for unintended acceleration when motorcycles are much more likely to bring firey death to their operators than the blistering speed of a Toyota Corolla. Can't have a recall if the operator doesn't survive to make the complaint! <!-- REPLY -->

I think it is all somewhat stupid. Comparing bikes to cars is dumb because unless the person drawing the comparison only operates a bike because s/he couldn't afford or be able to buy the car they really wanted whats the point? Clearly everybody knows many of the things about bikes regarding cozy comfort and smelling ALL the smells, even the smell of being behind a trash truck, riding next to a manure dump or a chicken house. Last but not least it is important to note that the person drawing the comparison conveniently failed to include any comparisons discussing rain or cold when touting all of the "pluses" of the bike. As for fuel economy that is irrelevant because the direct operating cost per mile driven is what needs to be evaluated and fuel economy only makes up a small portion of that. The per mile cost for tires and brakes is MUCH MUCH less on a car and the per mile cost for chain and sprocket replacement on a car is non existent. As for performance.....ALL but a handful of models of motorcycles would be left touting their superiority in the rear-view mirror of my $25k Z06 should a race break out.

Each mode of transport is good and bad in its own way. The ONLY thing that ANY bike can do that NO car can is give the operator the sense of flying with regards to the need to LEAN the bike in a corner. Performance cars give a very unnatural feeling in corners to their occupants, trying to sling them out to the outside of the corner whereas a bike of any type is much more enjoyable to operate in a corner in a fast paced performance minded way.

in response to 6, i had some squid pass me in the mountains then immediatly after, slow down considerably. I watch him rummage around in the pocket to his ripped jeans....he whips out a cell phone and begins to text. I would have never thought it possible until I've seen it with my own eyes.
