Carbon Motors is shopping its E7 police car prototype to law enforcement agencies. It signed a deal to buy diesel engines from BMW.
BMW has agreed to supply turbocharged diesel engines to Carbon Motors Corp. to power Carbon's purpose-built police cars.
In a deal signed on Monday, Carbon ordered more than 240,000 units of BMW's 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbodiesel — the same engine used in the X5. In the X5, the diesel is rated at 265 hp and 425 lb-ft of torque.

Wonder if they'd sell one for personal use, swap the red/blue LED's out to white and have some fun :D

supposedly they don't want one ever in civilian hands so they will be buying them back from law enforcement agencies to be refurbished

Decent car, but I would rather have an infiniti G37 sedan. I like the AWD, but... only 365 with Twin Turbos? The G gets 328 naturally. Drop a supercharger on the G and you are looking at over 400 hp for only about 3K more then a Ford.
Of course, I would REALLY like the M56 sedan. AWD, 420 HP 400 lbs.ft of torque...naturally.. Yum.
60K... not so nice.

Yea but local and federal government won't allow purchase of foreign vehicles for domestic use.
I was at the car show this weekend and saw the new Taurus. Those things are fuggin expensive. I think the SHO was like 42k and the Limited was 38-39k. WTF. For that price I'd rather have a G37 too.

Plus, just thinking about it, I would like to see an at the WHEELS dyno of the SHO vs. G37. With AWD and power loss through the drivetrain, I wonder how much of that HP is actually reaching the ground.
ETA: Ah-ha, here we go:
Here is review side by side SHO vs. G37
Comparison Test: 2010 Ford Taurus SHO vs. 2009 Infiniti G37 Journey
stock G37 0-60 5.6 secs
stock SHO 0-60 5.8 secs
stock G37 1/4 mile 13.8 secs
stock SHO 1/4 mile 14.2 secs
http://www.insideline.com/infiniti/g37/2009/comparison-test-2010-ford-taurus-sho-vs-2009-infiniti-g37-journey.html
ETA2:
Imagine what happens if you dump all the "cop weight" into that SHO... Toyota Priuses will be able to outrun it.

AWD and power loss through the drivetrain is the same thing. The G37 would have just a small percentage less drivetrain loss since its RWD.

Yea AWD powerloss will certainly drop that 368 down to around 295.

265hp + 425ftlb.
About the x5:
Low-end acceleration is stupendous, unsurprising given that the engine makes 390 lb-ft of torque at 1500 rpm, just off idle... and 425 between 1750 and 2250. Horsepower takes over after that, peaking at 265 at 4200 rpm.
I'll take that over 365hp @ 7k any day when it comes to handling. BMW lists 0-60 as 6.9 secs for the SUV and I found a 1/4mile at 18.9s, thats with a 5225lb curb weight (the carbon is 4000lb).
Of course AWD is nice but we're talking cop cars here. They need to be low maintenance and efficient where diesel is gonna show up in trumps.

Heck, save the bucks and get the Nissan Armada 0-60 in 6.8 and 1/4 at 15.3 and 88.9. That is for a curb of 5713.

Armada 12/18 mpg.... Carbon is saying the e7 will have a combo of 218-30mpg. Given a diesel engine will probably go 2-3X the distance of a gasser over its life time thats alot of bucks saved!
R32 - Bi Turbo - AWD - 500hp.

I rest my case. :D

AHH, did not realize that was a diesel. Plus diesels can be..um... tweaked.

My current wishlist (semi-realistic) car is the Nissan GT-r.
This is the extra expensive Spec V version.
