wow...it's here already? I'll be at the tally race....hmmm maybe sneak out there saturday during the endurance race... Heard it was the biggest crowd they'd seen just for the testing last year! No telling what the race will be like.

Barber seems pretty small for Indycar to me. I don't know where those guys are going to find room to make a pass, but it would be a blast to drive one around it.

I' may run over there with Nikk on Sat in between the races. Nikk, I should have tickets already so we're good to go if you want to go with Patty and I.

Per the Interviews last year and the year before they were like... "Why didnt anyone tell us about this place?" Castrioneves, Kannan and Andretti said they loved it... Thats good enough for me...

I'll check. It's typically 4 or 5 weekend VIP passes. Andrea coming that weekend?

What'd they do there that they loved? I didn't think IRL had ever raced at Barber. It's one thing to love driving around it. It's something different to put on a competitive race. Some of the comments I heard after the test were along the lines of "great facility, only one racing line all the way around" so not much passing on track. It's certainly no worse the F1. It's only 90 minutes away and its a great place to spend a day or a weekend watching fast cars. I just don't think it will be great racing.

They practiced there in 08 and 09.... Plenty of vids on Youtube... This is why they pushed for the race there and not only got it for 2010 but 2011 as well.... I saw the LeMans cars there this year and they are not that far off the IRL Pace.... Great racing... Passing was done.... Mainly on braking into 5 but some other good action in 1 through 4 as well...

seeing them cascade down the roller coaster should be interesting! Turned 1:09's in practice last year.

ALMS was testing there? kul. i didn't hear about that one. for the people going for the whole weekend, if you get a chance, watch an IRL practice or quali session from inside the museum, the cars made an awesome noise against the glass.
Also watch the Continental Challenge class and cheer for the 2 blue and green MX-5s and the Mazdaspeed 3. #25,26,27,28. We have a special guest driver for my car next weekend.

I just got back from St. Pete this past weekend. That was once again a great race.
I love Indycars and will once again make the trek to several more events. Unfortunately, I won't be making the trek to Barber for a couple reasons. One, I don't see the track facilitating a good race. Passing opportunities seem majorly limited. Two, I've never been stoked about the viewing areas at Barber. Sight lines are majorly limited, they need to cut down some of the trees, especially around the turn 1, 2 and 3 complex, the area on the "back stretch" needs additional elevation to see the pit straight. The turn 1 hill would give you a good view of the front straight and the turn up the hill if the trees weren't in the way. Three, Barber is dreaming for their pricing of the event. $70 for a weekend ticket + $30 for a paddock pass + $50 for a parking pass. Give me a break, thats f'ing rediculous for a first year event, if it was an established show, maybe, but that's just my opinion. They wanted $25 for a motorcycle parking pass. I thought about driving over for Sat. IRL qualifying is a pretty good show with the firestone fast 6, but I'll save my $40.
I think they're teamed up with Grand Am on Sat if you're into psuedo sports cars, but they're not the cars that run at LeMans, they're the nuetered NASCAR sports cars unfortunately.
I'll be interested to see what attendence is like, I've been a Indycar "fanclub" member for a few years and they've been bugging the piss out of me to buy tickets with some promo codes for 15% off. That's the first race they've ever offered a discount on. It is my great hope that I am 100% wrong. A great indycar race 2 hrs from home base would be awesome, but my gut tells me I'm not. It's OK though, I'll be at Indy for the 500, Kentucky, and Homestead for sure. I'm about 50-50 on Texas and Mid Ohio.
For your viewing pleasure some St Pete pics. Nothing like Indycars running on streets near waterfronts.
Also, do me a favor, don't stand in front of Danica's hauler in the pits with the rest of the celebritybots if you go. She's a huge disappointment in real life, and you'd be surprised how many indycar drivers you can approach if you know who they are and what they look like. Will Power, drives for Roger Penske, pretty much walks around unnoticed in the paddock and is a very approachable guy, and has won both races this year. Scott Dixon, Vitor Miera and Ryan Hunter Rhey are pretty cool guys who will stop for a picture and an autograph. Also, give a shout out to Alex Tagliani and Sarah Fisher, both pretty much started Indycar teams from scratch and have put together pretty awesome racing organizations in a short period of time. As someone who enjoys their product, there is so much more to Indycar than Danica.
IRL is teaming up with Grand Am. the Continental Challenge race is Saturday, but the Rolex race and the IRL race are both on Sunday. And yes, the Daytona Prototypes are pretty much pieces of poop on wheels. The price for the ticket is pretty high and I agree about the viewing at Barber, its not spectacular and it could easily be better. But, I will already be working the race that Saturday so thats the only reason Ill be there.
