Georgia will now require permanent residents to take the driver's exam in ENGLISH. What do you all think of this? I'm not against it at all.

I don't think it will make it into law, but unless they are going to post multilingual signs ($$$$), I say do it.

I couldn't really care less.

I get the point behind it -- but it doesn't solve the problem. As for the driving aspect of it, I have more problems with english speakers too busy on their goddamn cellphones, or trying to get a good look at the pollup in their intestine because their head is so far up their ass.

The non-english speaker who is driving the 60-deep, twenty year old ford van's with lawn equipment in tow actually tend to pay a lot of attention and follow the rules to the T (just because they know if they get pulled over, they are ****ed.)

We need stiffer penalties for NO INSURANCE or DL's.... Like automatic Deportation

There was a news report on the tube a couple of weeks ago about some jurisdiction in CA that was seizing cars from people that got stopped and didn't have a DL. Of course, most of those getting hit were illegals who can't get a DL. What was remarkable, though, was a part about an illegal that had his truck seized. The very liberal biased report was bemoaning the fact that is was his work truck and he couldn't work if he didn't have a truck. In an interview, he said he wouldn't go to claim it from the impound yard because he was an illegal and he couldn't provide the necessary documentation to get it back. Solution? He goes and buys another truck! More than once. Eh?

Sounds like stimulus to me and maybe, after a while, he will not be able to afford a truck and go home.

I'm torn on this. In Italy they have many signs in Italian and English. Same with Spanish/English in Mexico and Peru. Russia does to to a lesser extent.

When I was in the Azores, nothing was in English unless it was on base. Hell, their traffic signs didn't even have Portuguese on them, you identified them by shape only.

I think the only thing that matters is what the people vote it to be. If there are enough spanish speakers to pull enough vote then they can get what they want. God bless America.

Illegals are too profitable for us to deport them.

This bothered me more:

Currently, Georgia offers the driver's license test in 13 languages and will give the exam orally to anyone who is illiterate.

If you're illiterate should you really be driving?

Hell I watched them coach the blind woman in front of me when I last took a test (motorcycle license). Didn't you mean H D W Q ma'am? Lady then bumped into 2 objects while walking around....

We should be trying to remove language barriers instead of enforcing them.

Telling people that they have to learn the predominate language will increase the likelihood that they will also take the step to citizenship. They will also have wider job, housing, and schooling options available. More productive citizens equals higher standard of living all around.
