The 24-year-old had never obtained a riding licence and on January 9, he passed the theory exam.

You'd be surprised. It's not a minority of racers that lack a license, or even ride a bike at all outside of races.

Yup, most racers have zero interest in riding on the street.

Yup, most racers have zero interest in riding on the street.i can relate. :) from the time i bought my first sportbike, it was 6 months before i went and got my street license, and less than 6 months later pretty much gave up on street riding.

I'll admit, I don't have one. :) I got the permit back in 2003, but never made it up to Gainesville for the "road" exam. Shortly after it expired in 6 months I was doing track days, so it didn't help the cause to get the license. :lol: I never was a big street rider anyway.
