I'm looking to buy a subcompact for concealed carry. I've been looking at various options and the 2 that I've narrowed it down to are the glock and the springfield. Most of the stuff that I've found is a couple of years old, so I thought I would ask you guys. Does anyone have any experience with these guns or have a suggestion as to which I should choose and why?

Alot of what I've seen is the reliability of the glock vs. the unproven reliability of the springfield due to it's infancy compared to the glock.

Any input is much appreciated.

Find a range that rents both and put about 100 rnds through each and see which one you like better. They're both good, reliable guns.

I've had the pleasure of putting rounds through both and I honestly couldn't pick one over the other. I ended up getting a Glock 26 just because of cost of ammo and I like to practice as often as possible :D The Springfields are super-smooth too, but I got a discount on Glock and my mind was made

I've got the G27 with a Lone Wolf 9mm barrel and a few G26 mags. That way I can shoot the cheaper 9mm ammo at the range and carry the .40 for the extra stopping power. Best of both worlds.

Erik, I have shot both and own a G27 and have had several students bring in the Springfield for concealed carry courses. You cannot go wrong with either, I will say I have seen the XD have an issue not going into slide lock after the last round, but it is still reliable. The big difference is the trigger and ergonomics of both.
When buying a gun, I will say this:
1. Go to a range that has both, rent them and take notes. Shoot at the 5 and 10yrd range, nothing more. Pay attention to the trigger "break" and the sights in reference to sight alignment (does it shoot higher than the sights or lower). Do the ergonomics fit your hand better, does it conceal better etc
2. Both are reliable, but does one offer a better warranty ? Glock is in Smyrna, you ever have an issue, you take it down there and you get it right back, XD, send off and wait.
3. Accessories. Do you want a trigger job, ease of finding spare mags and spare parts. Glocks are in abundance, parts are too and cheap, so in a crap hits the fan scenario, you could use a cops mag (if he went down) in your 27 from a 22 or 23 where as the XD is only model specific and is not being used in metro areas for police work.

Either way you will be fine. See which one fits you and your need. Also, G27s are almost in surplus, see them for $350 used and these dont wear out.

Thanks for all of the suggestions and information guys. I actually went to the Sandy Springs gun club last weekend and put about 30-50 rounds through both of the guns I mentioned. The Glock had a bit of a kick, the Springfield seemed a lot smoother to me though. Seemed to be able to group better with it. I'm going to go back one more time before I make my decision.

I went with the XD. it fit my hand better and has a correct grip angle compared to the glock

Glock is American enough. Just about everything is done in Smyrna with the exception of the Tenifer coating (it doesn't meet US EPA laws)

I was looking at the membership fees since it really isn't that far of a drive for me. Are you a member there?
