View Full Version : Prayers/good vibes needed please....

I posted a brief post a while back about not taking life for granted. The basis of that post was about my sister. I didn't go into detail at that point.
Tomorrow she will fly to Orlando to undergo radical surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Her first bout was at the end of 2008. After a hysterectomy and radiation, we thought we were in the clear. Turns out that didn't solve the problem. The cancer shows it's ugly teeth again.
AFAIK it is still stage 1 which is a good thing. The plan is to do the surgery and hopefully that will remove all of this horrible disease without her having to go through chemotherapy. I know that this surgery is going to save her life, but it is radical and life altering. It is hard to look past the surgery at this point. It hurts me to know what she will endure. I try not to go to that place in my mind, but sometimes I can't help it.
There is a risk involved for anyone who is under for a certain amount of time. I'm really not sure at this point how much time the surgery will take, but it could be to the redline area. Lets hope not. She is 37 and in relatively good shape, so that is good.
I shed these tears because I hurt for my sister. Even though I feel confident this will all be behind us one day, it still hurts now. I can't imagine what is going through her mind.
I make this post in order to get as many prayers going up or as many good vibes as I possibly can. If you could do that for Michele and my family it would mean a lot. Thank you.

Prayers sent. She's going to the best cancer hospital in the country, if not the world. Anderson in Houston prescribed the treatment protocol for my cancer in in 2006 (a rare form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma). I've been in remission since January 2007, so they sell a good product. As for chemo if she needs it, it's not all that bad.

Thank you all for the prayers, kind words and offers to help. There have been a lot of people who have rallied to help out up to this point. It's great to know that there are so many folks out there willing to help, even if it's just a prayer. Marco, glad to hear you are still in remission. I hope you continue to stay that way. I will say a prayer for you tonight. MD Anderson does sound like a great place. She somehow felt a calling to go there. She flew home from Tulsa after being at Cancer Treatment Centers of America and jumped right on a plane to Orlando. I guess it was meant to be. Anyways, thank you all. The prayers do help like you said Allen.
Looking forward to her coming home party....Just keep Jimmy away from the fireworks....

Yeah we will have to have a big get together. It's gonna be a while though. She'll probably be there a month or so and it will take a good 6 months to recover from this surgery. Not sure how long before she will feel well enough for all that, but look forward to that time myself. Lets hide all the fireworks and firearms.

Michael, I think MD Anderson is where Steve (Musicman) is for his treatment. Ping him, I bet he'd be happy to stop by and give your sister some encouragement. He's doing very well on his treatment.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes. It has been a rough day. I hate it that this is the news that I received, but it is what it is. Once they opened her up for the radical surgery it was discovered that things had progressed more than anyone ever expected. This was always a possibility and had been discussed before the surgery began.
The doctor removed as much of the tumor as possible and an ovary that had been spared before in order to keep her hormones and lady stuff going. It had become basically a tumor as well. I'm not sure what else has been compromised, but they closed her up without removing the planned organs.
We are all shocked, upset, emotional, very mad at times and attempting to understand how it got to this point. I'm not sure what's next. It's in God's hands now. I know it always has been in His hands, but now so more than ever. I'm not sure how much more treatment she can receive. Strong radiation from 2008 may take away that option. And no one is really talking Chemo yet. I hope they can come up with a course of action for her to treat this further.
This pill is tough to swallow. Please continue to pray or do whatever you do. I feel like we need a miracle now. We haven't had anything good happen yet it seems. I can't take much more bad news.

I'm very sorry to learn about this but glad to tell you that your sis is at the very best place she could be. I'm at MD Anderson in Houston being treated for recurrent lymphoma. I have to say that the standard of care here is far better than any other hospital I know. I have unfortunately had some experience at both Northside and Piedmont in the ATL but MD Anderson is in a different league. I had no other options but a stem cell transplant and so far my treatment is going great. My best hopes and prayers for your sister.

I just got off the phone with sister. We spoke briefly, but it was good. The doctor has been working to come up with a course of treatment for her. This is what I have been hoping for and I knew they would have something to help her.
She seemed in as good of spirits as she could possibly be. I know she will fight now. She may have to stay in Orlando a little longer to start treatment. I'm ready to get my hands on her though. Hope and prayer is what I have now, along with a lot of great people including yourselves. I thank you all again.
