Boyd, who owns Ray Boyd Properties, intends to accept no campaign contributions, and said the $2 million on his campaign disclosure “is not for show.”
“I’m going to try to be a we-the-people candidate. In normal times, a person like me would get ground up, but this is not normal times,” he said. “I’m running as a Ronald Reagan Republican, but I’m going to have both sides attacking me, because I’m for term limits.”
He intends to run on an anti-incumbent platform that will appeal to the tea party movement in Georgia.

It's interesting for sure. Hopefully he is prepared for what will happen. Before it's over, the "professional" politicians will know about every potentially damaging hint of a skeleton in his closet. It could really be daunting for somebody that doesn't have a burning desire to be elected. And if he's really an outsider, it will come from both sides. I hope he is an outsider and that he is prepared to endure the shitstorm that will come.

yeah, nothing like having your life and your families lives smeared across campaign ads and press releases... hopefully he can out perform and last this

Heard him on the local news -- sounds like an old man that lost his wife a few years ago and has nothing better to do.

Well, unless they dig up that he "offed" her then he is someone I'll keep my eye on.

From a story in the AJC:
The real estate executive intends a throw-the-bums-out, anti-incumbent campaign that pays no attention to party.
Boyd wants all 236 lawmakers in the state Capitol gone. He scoffs at the ethics reform package envisioned by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), describing it as “milk toast.”
“Send them all packing. Start with a new team who will know what happens when you fail to be a public servant,” Boyd writes on his campaign Web site.
He wants to see the 535 members of Congress gone as well, including U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson — a Republican on the November ballot.
Link to the rest of it (http://blogs.ajc.com/political-insider-jim-galloway/2010/04/07/how-ray-boyd-and-his-2-million-could-play-in-the-gop-race-for-governor/?cxntfid=blogs_political_insider_jim_galloway)
I'm liking him. The vids (I haven't listened all the way through to either) impress me because of the lack of polish. It really does look like this guy is Joe Citizen, fed up with the mess and willing to step up and offer his personal time and resources to try to improve it. He's too old to be looking for a career in politics. He's already wealthy. Maybe he's the real deal.

I'm really impressed by his forthright manner, but his website is short on specifics.
He really sounds as if he's speaking from the heart, but would really like to know his positions on the issues. Think I might send him an e-mail.

The plot thickens:
http://www.southernpoliticalreport.com/storylink_426_1380.aspx
The state Republican Party refused to qualify real estate executive Ray Boyd for the governor’s race Monday after he refused to take an oath of allegiance to the party.
Boyd, a newcomer candidate who raised eyebrows when he put $2 million of his own money in his campaign, said he was weighing his options, including running as an independent.
I too am looking for more specifics, you here anything Don?

Man if he didn't bore me to tears with those videos I could see it happening. I like the fact that hes in real estate and not out of business. I even like him more that he won't tow the GOP line. Good for him.
[edit] POO. Too much Jesus talk for me in his bio.

Kind of out of the political loop lately.
Both parties are corrupt
I'm actually liking that he isn't playing their game.
He needs to use this to condemn the republicans as self-serving and not true representatives of the people, you know just like the democrats.

plans on running independent
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0410/36401.html
Real estate magnate Ray Boyd, who had announced plans to run for governor of Georgia as a Republican, plans to proceed with an independent campaign after refusing to sign a GOP loyalty oath. Boyd had pledged to put $2 million of his own money into the race, and must now collect more than 51,000 signatures by July 13 in order to make it onto the ballot.

At least he's trying to make a difference and is willing to spend his money to do so and stay away from the political crap. Unlike sitting back bitching and doing nothing.

I agree but I have no patience for politicians who can't keep religion out of it.

I haven't had a chance to read all of his bio. Just bits and pieces. In Georgia, in the middle of the Bible Belt, I think you'll be hard pressed to find ANY candidate that doesn't bring religion into it.

Ever try to buy beer on Sunday? I mean really, religion has no place in politics. Just read the bio. He says he is born again and then says he isnt. Guy can't even figure out what he is. I applaud his sensibility about party politics but after W I have had my fill of born agains.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt that you are reading a different Bio than I am. Please point out where he says this.

Ooo ah, I misread that. Born Again American... Christian. Still two paragraphs, if anywhere that belong at the end. Clearly he is fiscally responsible, however IIRC the state constitution keeps us from storing up too much money in the coffers right? I dunno I need to see more of him before he gets my vote. Who else has announced their running? Onthissues.org seems to have gone to the wayside.

Since when did I say anything about buying beer on Sundays? If I want something to drink Sunday I either buy it Saturday or go to a restaurant. That just isn't that big of a deal to me. If that's the most for you to pick off of, you might want to look at the other options better and open your mind a little. Not being able to buy beer on Sunday at a store is FAR from a deal breaker to me.

I was just pointing to it as a silly result of a religion in politics. How about gays not being able to visit their life long partners on their deathbeds? Tell me where there is justice in that.
