I just bought my 07 gsxr 750 and have some mechanical concerns. Where near atlanta can I find some good people to talk to that will take me seriously and actually take a little time to educate me with some basic things about my bike? I ride a ton and want it in prime condition!
Thanks, much love,
Candy

Well first off tell us whats wrong...I know Lorne at OTC or Huey at Marietta Motorsports can definitely assist ya but it might not be that big of an issue...Could you explain what you think it going on? I might be able to lead you in some sort of a way!

I could check it out for ya....As far as running hot...What temps are you looking at? As far as Slip on vs. Full system...I would go slip on just because the newer bikes have titanium piping (corrrect me if im wrong anyone but i know the k5/6 does). Bike ever dropped....only way you could tell is looking at the farings and frame itself (from what i know)

Go to Huey's shop, Marietta Motorsports, there are plenty of guys with answers to any question you've got. Or, just ask away here..

Take pics (of the bike, all over) and post em. Most people on here can give you little pointers on those bikes since they are so common.

Go to Huey at Marietta Motorsports. Overheating could be any number of things, only now manifesting due to the consistently higher temperatures. Exhaust, I think someone said it before, nowadays, unless you're truly a racer, you won't see a noticeable increase in performance with a full system vs. a good slipon, and you probably won't be able to put the performance increase from the full system to use on the street anyway (Not demeaning your riding skill.. I couldn't, and probably 90%+ of motorcyclists on the road today couldn't either). Your money is better served in a nice slipon (Use the internet to do research, there are EXTENSIVE gixxer forums. If you can search through the squids, there is good info. You can find dyno charts to back up claims, pick the one that gives the most power, or the one that looks best to you, or has the easiest install, whatever your preference is) and a power commander, and some dyno time to get everything mapped just right. Smooth power throughout the rev range is infinitely more valuable on the street than a few HP around peak RPM. Keep in mind, everything I've just said is simply my opinion, make the decision that's right for you. Talk to Huey at Marietta Motorsports (ClickyClicky (http://www.bbcracing.com/)), he's probably forgotten more about bikes than I'll ever know.

For the Fi light you can pull the code by putting it in dealer mode. On the K6/K7's usually the Fi kicked on because of the exhaust valve. I disconnected my exhaust vavle and pulled the wires years ago.
Here is how to pull the code:

Whats your temp running at?
Slip on vs full? Get the slip on. Full will give you like +1 more hp or something small but will save alot of weight... at a greater expense.

Have you checked the coolant levels? Sounds basic but I just bought a K6 750 and it was running a little hot (fan kicks on at 220, I was climbing towards 230 if I got stopped at a light for too long). Checked the coolant, find it low, topped it off and now it never gets hot. Not sure if it's something that basic, but worth checking before you try too much else.

The FI light is your fuel injectors soo either one of ur fuel injectors is goin bad which is a simple replacement. Now if she is runnin hott it culd be the low level of coolent like
Phil jonez said. now it could be somethin more serious now if it is take it up to Cycle gear in lawernceville they will answer any question they hve for ya. hope u get it fixed and ride safe out there

Wow.
The "FI" light is most likely *not* a faulty fuel injector. "FI" stands for fuel injection, which is what the entire fuel system does. The "FI" light is a fault indicator for any one of a number of possible issues with the fuel injection system or one of its components. Could be something minor or an indication of a potentially major issue.
And Cycle Gear isn't a service facility. They are great people and very knowledgable but they are a parts and accessory outlet.

^^^ Mark's the man. He beat me to it. Mark's top notch, go see him or Huey. You can only get so much help from armchair mechanics on the internet. And a lot of it isn't so useful.

When I bought my bike, I, like you wanted to learn about how to do stuff myself and see how it works and such, so I bought a Haynes Manual. It's loaded with a lot of info.
