Nice pictures! Im excited to start my new job on monday and see all the F-18's again. This is one of the biggest F-18 bases in the fleet so im sure there wont be a shortage of them! My buddy here is an F-18 close air support pilot. Im very jealous!

I fly for a DOD contractor. I fly Gulfstream G1's. We also have Lear 35's, Gulfstream G2 and G3's.

NAS Oceana? They have the most 18's I have seen! The video of the 18 practicing for his airshow where he almost breaks the sound barrier was shot at Oceana. All the other pics, including the pass by the U2 was shot out west over the Mojave around China Lake, Edwards, and Pt Mugu NAS's.

I love my job. We get to do a lot of fun stuff with the military and since I could not fly in the military (too tall and wear contacts, so I was told) this is the next best thing. I guess it ended up better for me since I am not committed to any length of a service. It still gives you a bit of pride to work with our service men and women all the time and help out. I enjoy it, and the views.

when i was going into the military i heard the schpeel about contacts and eyeglass restrictions also... but there must be some way around it because i saw pilots with glasses everyday around the P3's and C130's.

Im starting work at NAS Lemoore on Monday. Over 20 F-18 squadrons. My buddy tells me its F-18 central. we're VERY close to Mojave and edwards. As a matter of fact we passed both of them on our way here.

There is not a lot to do socially in the Mojave but you will get to see a lot of nice equipment out there. From what I have been told about the restriction on vision you can pass the vision test going in, once you are accepted into flight school you can have your vision fail and the military will correct it for you, however you can not come in already corrected (as I am).

I spoke to several different branches and recruiters during this back around 2001 or so and they were all saying the same thing so I went elsewhere. I am still not sure to this day if they were just blowing me off since I was only interested in flying and no other career or if it is an accurate statement.

not sure about other branches, but early on in my active duty army career i was enlisted and wanted to fly (rotary, not fixed) so i applied to warrant officer flight school...i took the FAST and aced it, but my left eye was 20/30 and i was medically dq'd...i found out, however, that the vision requirements for army aviation (rotary AND fixed) are waiverable for commissioned officers...theres a whole long story about rotc and scholarships and whatnot, but i wont bore you with any of that...like i said, not sure of other branches requirements

btw...sweeeeet pics, thanks for sharing

Guess what is sitting in the hangar right outside our shop right now. Of course... they wont let anyone near it with a camera, phone, or just about any electronic device...

It was under 24 hour guard when it was on the ground here also. We ended up just asking the guards if we could take pics and they let us pose in front of it. I will see if I can find the pic.
