Anyone use something that they would highly recommend? I ride a ninja and there's not a lot of places to mount something large and gaudy. I'd like to find something that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb, but yet is useful enough to track rides and have the capabilities to upload gps routes to places like http://www.sundaymorningrides.com/.
Any input or suggestions would be great.

Im currently shopping as well because my latest gps is starting to flake on me a little. I've had several and you really cant go wrong with most Garmin models. You can get them at pretty much whatever level you want. Personally, i like my gps to be all inclusive, i.e. XM, mp3, etc. so i am looking at a Garmin Zumo 550. The Zumo line is a motorcycle friendly line that is designed to perform well under high vibration, dusty, wet conditions. The Garmin Streetpilot line is very good also, but a little bit big and starting to get outdated. I have had several Streetpilots and been very please with all of them.
There are several Garmin models designed for marine use that work very well on bikes, but theyre also kinda large so its really up to size and features as to what you want to get. One of the smallest and simplest yet durable GPS's ive ever had is the Garmin Quest 1 & 2. Theyre very simple and pretty slow. Not a feature packed unit, but they'll store a pretty good bit of route info and always get you home.
Just my $.02

try ram mounts for your gps. I have that style mount for my Tomtom rider and Love it. I can remove the gps from the holder with the built in power point and it works for me. I could show you a pict later when I find them.
I have a Garmin GPS60CSx. Have had it for about 3 years. Works great. You do have to buy a better map set cause the stock one sucks. I have it mounted with a Ram Mount.

Same here.. goes from bike to bike and to the boat and to hikes and geocaching and whatever. Not a very large screen and no voice prompts, otherwise it's my do everything unit.

Same here...have it hard wired on both bikes.

Garmin has the best maps and lacking a few features on being user friendly . Mainly I was looking for blue tooth and linking my phone to the gps and I have both those features on the tom tom rider. Overall I've reviewed a few of the handheld unit's and come to the general conclusion they all have pro's and con's on the overall cost of ownership. My dad's Gamin is a pretty nice unit with Bt and weather updates and overall providing some features mine is missing from my Motorcycle Tom tom. I'm waiting on a newer unit that has Xm and gps all in one that's very likely my next choice is having the option for music to my scale rider g4. I want all the stuff im missing from my truck and Xm is something I like to retain when i ride too
Ram mounts guy's are something like this below had mine on less then one year and Like it and yes sportbikes are limited to having add on's like a gps or camera.

Here's another ram mount.. this one has my SPOT in it, but I have the exeact same set up with a different cradle for my GPS on the other side of the bars. I have the Ball mounts on both bikes and my boat and I can just take the stem and mount to whatever ride I'm taking.

Who carries just one GPS? :D
The 276c/376c/478 are my favorite GPS's (bottom left corner). It has the best screen of any GPS and you can always see the screen. Plus my 478 & Sarah's 376c both do XM and get nexrad weather. I don't mind the Street Pilot series (2820 on my bike) as a back up and like the bluetooth and 3d display, but the screen washes out way too easy and the touch screen is sometimes a pain with gloves on. The extrex (upper right corner) is a better DS GPS then anything, and the bottom right GPS III is only good as a mileage tracker and speedometer.
My Dad is just about to buy the Zumo 550, so I'll get a chance to finally play with one and see what I think of it. I like the idea of the Zumo 665, but I hate that its really just a nuvi in disguise. :(
BTW, each of those are held on by a RAM Mount and there is a SPOT on another RAM mount just out of the picture up by my mirror.

Haha, I admit I was just playing. The etrex got pulled off the next day. I really just had the III on there for a quick glance at my speed and altitude. I really can do just fine with my 2820 & 478.

I was about to say jeez and I thought my system on my truck was bad. Dans bike look's like everything but the Tv was included. I've gotten spoiled with Gps and hell after the demo ride I took with Dan a wile back I know he needs it too (LOL). Sorry Dan I couldn't pass that from last year Ducati demo ride and you being the team leader and Not knowing directions and asking me. Asking me for directions is a bad ideal in the making been in Ga 10 year's and hell I still can't manage this place sometimes. Gps saves relationship's too (LOL)
