What are the laws for scooters in Ga?

I've heard that if it is small enough (50 cc's i guess), you don't need a tag or insurance. Anyone have any experience with this, or know the details? Thanks.

As much as I know, you dont even need a motorcycle licence to ride a 49cc scooter. And you also do not need insurance nor a tag.

copy the code section number, select the link, agree, search the code section number, read all about it

or just search terms

for moped you need a valid drivers license...a lot of folks think that it's OK to ride a moped if license has been revoked...not so

§ 40-6-351. Driver's license or permit required for certain operators

No person under 15 years of age shall operate a moped or an electric assisted bicycle upon the public roads and highways of this state. No person shall operate a moped upon the public roads and highways of this state unless he or she shall have in his or her possession a valid driver's license, instruction permit, or limited permit issued to him or her pursuant to Chapter 5 of this title; provided, however, that all classes of licenses, instruction permits, or limited permits issued pursuant to Chapter 5 of this title shall be valid for the purposes of operating mopeds upon the public roads and highways of this state. No license or permit shall be required for the operation of an electric assisted bicycle.

Less than 50cc and cant go more than 30 mph. Then you dont need a tag but do need a valid dl. I have an old vino and did a couple mods and it pulls hard and does an easy 45 on flat ground. Most of the scooters that size are restricted so they dont exceed the 30 mph

lol athens motorcycle cops are all over them....there are so many who ride without a tag or anything. Its pretty obvious which ones are 50cc and which ones are larger

Not sure if you live in Athens but there is a crazy amount of crops driving around lately. I came through the east side walmart intersection last Thursday doing 67 in a 45 at midnight. Well GSP was at the light and I was like O crap. He came up to me at the next light without lights and said would you mind slowing down. Said Yes sir. Light turned green and he said that's all. Me: Yes Sir. Got away with that.

Ha! Guess I broke the law at an early age since i had a scooter when I was 9. Oh well.

but all joking aside, if you're gonna get one, I would recommend getting something larger than a 50cc esp if you ride motorcycles. My 125 has some serious pick up and rides up to 55 mph in the city which I find I need sometimes to keep from getting run over! :)

felt the exhaust was the mod that made the most difference. I would recommend drilling most of the washer out with a large bit then using a dremel to remove the rest of it

This didnt make as large of a difference but was good for a few mph. I didnt have any luck with the channel lock so i would definitely recommend a impact wrench
