I'm with AT&T and hit my period for 2yr upgrade.... I've had 2 iphones now with no success... (losing, damaging) the universe definitely doesn't want me to use an iphone... so I'm considering the following...
was wondering if any of you have them and how they do...
These would either be free or 49.00 to upgrade too....
Garmin's Nuvifone G60

HTC's Pure phone..

Samsung's Solstice...

Samsung Impression with the new AMOLED

Then there's the blackberry curve, iphones, and HTC for like 130-150.00 upgrades...

I'm not a fan of touch screens --- and I'm for simplicity. So I say go with a Blackberry. Keep in mind, I don't do apps minus weather and facebook.
I use it for:
texting
email
facebook
phone calls
If you're into the apps and the flashy cool stuff then ignore this

Go to the store and play with them and decide? Blackberry's former strength is now their weakness. Their ecosystem is proprietary and fairly closed off (compared to Apple and Google).
after all this time, and youre gonna STAY with ATT?

if you want a phone to help with business stuff mostly go with a crackberry imo. If not I'd recommend the droid (mostly based on reviews from friends that have them).

Android is the OS... the actual DROID phone i have not heard great things about....
 thats the only way i'd ever use ATT, so i dont blame ya for that, Eric. As for bad things about the droid? Interesting, my wife and myself have had ours for over a month now, and absolutely love it. There is probably a dozen or so peeps i work with at Gen. Mills that have it, and they have nothing bad to say about theirs either. There is only one thing that i could live without, and thats the physical keyboard, i like the virtual keyboard better than the physical, but, thats got nothing to do with the phone being bad.
Mr. Clean (Damian) just picked up the ATT Backflip, and he's raving about it. He called me last night all giggity like a school girl.

Cant go wrong with the Android Phones. The only thing I dont like about the backflip is the keyboard. I feel like i'd scratch it up quick. I'd stay away from the Garmin Phone. You can check out phonescoop.com. Good breakdown of phones and some user reviews.

My company as been ATT for years because, Verizon's 3G map commercials aside, when phone connection coverage everywhere in the world is what matters, ATT is king.

Att is rated last on Customer service from CR and for good reason you have morons to deal with and crappy service . I liked Cingular but when Att jumped into bed with them they went downhill from there. Att always had bad service when I lived back west and I never retained them then. I have a friend that works for T mobile and he mentioned Att takes there time in dealing with Network issues (not surprised).
I got raid of Att for Home and in the process on getting raid of them for Cell.

I've only called ATT c/s twice in about 15 years. Once, I need them to add international roaming when I took a phone to Mexico for the first time. They told me they could see my phone connected to a cell in whereverthehelliwas and asked me one question to verify I was me and it was done. Then I called them before a trip to Cambodia to ask how to unlock my phone because their info said they did NOT have coverage there. The person I spoke to on the phone gave me clear step by step instructions and a number to get directly back to her if I got there and it didn't work. It turned out that it did hook up with a provider there without unlocking it so I didn't have to unlock it anyway, so their info was out of date (or maybe it was somebody doing something shady in Cambodia) but they were very helpful to me.
I don't know what other people's experience has been but I've never had a problem with ATT c/s on the phone or in their stores.

I'm surprised they knew what they were doing when you called. Att is very well knowen for piss poor customer service when it comes to there Cell division as rated from CR (poor ratings). I've heard nothing but complaint's about they Poor service rendered coming from Coworkers and family to the point most don't want to deal with there incompetent staff. My generally experience hasn't been very good either when it comes to my 3g and the Mss feature being down for weeks wile Att Moron's look into the tech issues.
It seems to me and I Made a complaint with them about this is having your support staff and tech out of the same pages don't work very well (oh let me get this dept) whatever. Att tech support really doesn't deal with the overall Volume on getting it fixed the first time. It doesn't take a customer like me 3 to 5 times in order for the ball to start rolling . I can also state my brother and his wife used to have them and dumped them because of similar issues. Overall Att has way much Ego coming from the Staff they need to go back to the basic on Customer support. I'm sure it's noted in record that Iphone users living in major cities are having issues to the point there dropping them as well and buying another phone. Yes To Rid (correct Nazi 's) Att was the best thing I ever done for Home service and cell is very likely next on the list.

I agree. I have a BB curve with ATT for work and only use the apps that you do. I do have an Itouch and have a ton of apps on it. I only use the ifitness one at the gym. If i were to buy a personal phone though I would prob go Iphone or similiar. I like how much better accessing the internet is on the Iphone/Itouch.

Have not had one single issue with ATT, and I have not had to use their CS. I see no reason to change companys, so I will be upgrading to the Backflip in about a month.

I liked Cingular before Att jumped ship but Noticed issues with them when it comes to there overall Poor customer service. It's Not like i Call them every freaking day either. My cell bill is Auto payment and that's all taken care of. I rarely call them but when I have I noticed a lot of isssues within the staff. They don't understand problems nor want to deal with issues when the network is down and blame the phone. The problems arn't the phone it's the service rendored and Att doesn't want to take into account any wrong doing on there end. My coworker had similar issues and I got her to Join Att . After her 2 year's is up she is dumping them too. Overall Att might have the best 3g service but lately it's pissing off a lot of customer's and Iphone users in certain part's of the USA and Yes this has a lot of barring with me as a customer. I pay to use there network and when it's down there wasting my Time. For the reason's stated above it's well knowen Att isn't clearly the best provider out there you just have to find someone who deserves your bussiness and time.

It's part true but changes started happening when the renaming took effect and partly key changes were made in the way thing's were handled. Customer service went way down from there on out but intrested it mentioned below "Cingular outsources some of their customer care to companies in Canada and overseas". I can see during the changes Att went into a new method of poor Micro managment.
Cingular Wireless LLC was the largest United States Mobile phone company, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Cingular, formed in 2001, was a Joint venture of the American landline telephone companies AT&T (formerly known as SBC Communications) and BellSouth. The two companies hold 60% and 40% stakes in Cingular, respectively, based on the value of the assets each company contributed to the venture. Cingular was the second largest mobile phone carrier in the United States. On October 26, 2004, Cingular won regulatory approval from the FCC to acquire AT&T Wireless, and completed the acquisition of 24 million customers giving them 48 million customers, which surpassed Verizon Wireless, and is now the second largest (behind Alltel Wireless) mobile phone carrier in the United States. Q3 2005 numbers, released on October 20, 2005, showed 52.3 million Cingular subscribers. Cingular operates two separate pay-as-you-go mobile phone services, including its own GoPhone; Net10's GSM customers also use the Cingular network. Cingular operated a mixed network consisting of GSM (from the former Pacific Bell Wireless and BellSouth Mobility DCS networks), and TDMA and AMPS (from SBC's Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems network, BellSouth's BellSouth Mobility network, a Mobitex-based network used for paging and remote telemetry, and various acquisitions, including some SBC-owned systems operating under the Cellular One name), which they are working to convert to pure GSM/GPRS. Cingular also supports EDGE data services nationwide. Cingular will be rolling out UMTS or W-CDMA High-Speed network, to counter Altlel's EV-DO network. UTMS is avaliable now in selected cities — Seattle, Dallas, Detroit, Tucson, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area, adding 15 major markets before year-end 2005, with the rest of the United States to follow in 2006. The network runs GSM-1900 in the former Pacific Bell Wireless and BellSouth Mobility DCS areas. The areas that have been converted to GSM from TDMA are mostly GSM-850, but there are some exceptions where the pre-Cingular companies had only licenses in the 1900MHz PCS band. In California, Nevada, northern New Jersey and New York City, Cingular and T-Mobile USA maintained and shared a GSM-1900 network prior to the acquisition of AT&T Wireless, through a joint venture known as GSM Facilities. The network sharing agreement allowed Cingular to offer local service in northern New Jersey and New York City and T Mobile to offer service in California and Nevada. On May 25, 2004, Cingular and T-Mobile USA announced their intention to dissolve the agreement contingent on Cingular's successful acquisition of AT&T Wireless. First announced on June 23, 2005 Cingular Wireless announced the intention to divest its Caribbean and Bermuda operations and licenses which it acquired from the acquisition of AT&T Wireless, to Bermuda-based Digcel Group under undisclosed financial terms. Cingular outsources some of their customer care to companies in Canada and overseas. On August 25, Cingular was removed from the New York Better Business Bureau because of a large number of complaints that were not handled in a timely manner. The company is in the process of restructuring its customer care procedures and has appealed the decision. As of 2010, Cingular has been readded to the BBB list as AT&T Mobility [1] It remains a member of the BBB in other states in which it operates. In 2004, the FCC reported logging more than 14,000 complaints (or 289 per million subscribers) against Cingular Wireless. The most common of which included number portability issues, over billing, poor customer support and network reliability.

That's the thing, nothing changed but the name. nothing! They had already started selling off towers in cali and ny. that's why the nework is so weak in those areas.
I have never had an issue with CS on the phones or in store. EVER! And I used to mod phones for all the local corp. cingular/att stores. What you have to remember is phone CS is made up of a great deal of min wage high school kids. If you get a bad rep simply hang up and call again. if you know anything at all about tech then you should really never have to call CS except maybe for a billing issue

Like Todd said, I got my backflip a little more than a month ago and I still really dig it. I'm pretty sure what I dig the most is the Android OS...and the fact that the phone is a Motorola. I also have been w/ AT&T since...get ready for it...since they were Bellsouth Mobility. I honestly have not ever had any issue with customer service, not when they were Cingular and not now that they are AT&T (again). Matter of fact, the representatives I've dealt with at the Southlake store over the past two years have been exceptionally helpful.
As for coverage...I'll argue that it's just as important to have a good phone as it is to have a good "map". I had a Motorola T720 flip phone and I dropped calls regularly around my house. I switched to a Razor and suffered no more dropped calls. Upgraded to a Motorola Z9, same rock solid connections. Next phone was a Samsung Impression, really loved that phone for what it did at the price point (including service fees), but it simply did NOT perform as well as a phone as the Z9. So far, I've not had any real issues with the Backflip, except when talking to someone on an iPhone...I have serious doubts that Apple makes as good a "phone" as Motorola does. That's my opinion, your mileage may vary.
This may or may not help anyone. But I felt like writing. Plus, I got a cruiser bike I want to sell, but since I haven't been quite regular, I figured I ought to be involved in conversations before I post in the for sale section. :D
