This kid paid $250 for this bike. Brought it here with it revving instantly to redline upon cranking it. Main and pilot jets boogered up beyond repair. No airbox, gas tank, or exhaust on the bike... he says if you can get it running I will put more money into it, this is my budget.

Kid called every hour to tell me something he found on the internet about why it may be doing what its doing. Bike was here about 4 days in all. Choke and throttle cables were reversed on the bike. Sourced another set of carbs off a 750 to swap jets and floats and needles. Got the bike to crank, idle, and respond to throttle without issues. My advice to him upon pickup was this - Get an airbox, install exhaust, and then worry about getting it to run better, until then DO NOT RIDE IT.

Kid calls back and says he rode it around his street and it was sucking WAY too much gas. I say, hey man, dont ride the bike, its bad for the motor.
Then he calls back and says its leaking gas out of a carb.
Then he calls back and says that he is at a shop and the carbs are all messed up and one of the jets is the wrong size.... on a SUNDAY night.
So he is already lieing.

So he says he wants his money back. I tell him in no way shape or form will that happen. The vehicle left running "decent" for its condition. he then calls back and apologizes and asks if I will swap his tires from ANOTHER parts bike he bought on craigslist. I say, sure.

Well the place it sits at now is Atlanta Cycle. I spoke with the guy there and they have not looked at the bike yet and probably wont for about 2 or 3 weeks. It also arrived again with the throttle and choke cables reversed.

So the kid brought home the bike, tried to ride it around with a bottle for a gas tank, no airbox, and open header. Then decided to operate on the carbs and now it wont run and is sitting at Atlanta Cycle.

Give me a break man.

where to start..... so about a month ago i take my motorcycle to over two
customz in lawrenceville for a simple carb re-build. I told them i was
already quoted $260.00 by another shop to go through and fully clean and
replace all internals with NEW parts. I was told by the owner, that he would
charge roughly 240.00 for the complete rebuild and he could have it done in
a few days .

after leaving the bike with him and a deposite of 200$ cash i felt good and
assured that he would fix it.

about a week passed and i called and he told me that he had not figured out
why it was running rough... (still hadnt rebuilt the carbs) He then told me
he had to call in a guy that worked on airplanes to look at my bike and give
his opinion....lol! wow.. this should have been the deal breaker... Any
mechanic that has to call in a airplane pilot to fix my bike is
worthless..(in my eyes)

ITS STARTING TO GET BETTER KEEP READING::::. I FINALLY GET PISSED AND GO TO
PICK MY BIKE UP AND THEY HAVE IT SOMEWHAT DECENTLY RUNNING......BUT.... IT
ONLY RAN FOR 2 DAYS AND NOT GOOD. IT WAS DRAINNG GAS OUT OF 2 OF THE CARBS
AND RPMS WOULD JUMP AND DIVE RANDOMLY...( HE NEVER BOUGHT NEW PARTS FOR MY
CARBS !!!! HE ONLY PUT USED PARTS IN THEM)

THE BEST PART:::: AFTER ASKINGHIM WHAT HE REBUILT MY CARBS WITH HE SAID HE
USED QUALITY USED PARTS. BUT.... I TOOK THE CARBS APART WITH A MECHANIC F
MINE AND SAW HE JETTED THEM COMPLETY WRONG... THEY WERE JETTED WITH RANDOM
JETS NOT EVEN MATCHING!!! 3 OF THE PILOT JETS WERE MATCHING AND ONE WAS OFF
BY 10* THEY WERE STRIPPED AND STILL DIRTY!

HIS EXCUSE: " IT WAS RUNNING WHEN IT LEFT THE SHOP, I HAVE A VIDEO. " ( WHAT
KIND OF MECHANIC MAKES VIDEOS ON A CELL PHONE TO PROVE IT RUNNING?
lol)

MY SUGGESTION: DO YOUR RESEARCH. **DO NOT GO TO A CHILDHOOD BICYCLE
MECHANIC**

I AM GOING TO BE SENDING HIM A BILL FROM A CERTIFIED MECHANIC WITH A LIST OF
THINGS HE DID TO MY BIKE... AND I ASSURE YOU I WILL BE GETTING MY MONEY
BACK.

Yeah, i have service charts now for all my bikes. When you come in and something is uncertain then we document it. On older bikes we always eat the labor in the end. They just consume so much of your time. The blatant fact that he said he would bring it back up here and decided to take it somewhere else after he messed with it is a sure give away that he was afraid we would charge him again to fix his mess. Truth be told we always look at something free of charge if it left here with the same symptons. I dont charge anyone for a service that does not yield a positive result.

Yea but I would have made notation that bike came in and left with or without X like airbox, gas tank, etc. That way he can't go there and be like eh, wheres my gas tank? Wheres my $1500 full Akrapovic exhaust? Etc.

Its unfortunate that service businesses have been reduced to everything being spelled out in paper but thats the times we live in. No one's word means anything, everyone is quick to sue you or spread lies about what you did, didn't do, promised, etc. And if you grew up (your business) dealing with word of mouth or not using disclaimers etc it could be a big change and you feel like its going against the principal (trust) that you built your business on.

Just out of curiousity, why would you even work on a bike like that?

It would seem to me that some one bringing a bike up there in that fashion and not willing to fix the problem with quality parts and replace the missing parts is going to be an idiot anyway, so why not avoid folks like this all together? I think in the long run, you might lose a few small sales, but you'll save yourself a lot of money and headaches long term.

We try to help out everyone on 2 wheels if we can. It was made very clear that the bike needs the rest of it to operate and function correctly. If we could get the bike in the right direction then he could do the rest.

People who work on airplanes are mechanics, not pilots.

Jamie is actually a pilot. He was a mechanic in the auto industry for before taking up flying as a career. He consults at the shop on a lot of the older bike builds, headache electrical problems, and engine disassembly. If I had to do it all myself I dont think id ever get the paint load work done.

I wasn't dogging on you for bringing him in, I don't know who he is, or what he does, or what he knows.. I was simply pointing out that the kid said you brought in someone who works on planes.. then called him a pilot. Just pointing out that the kid's practically illiterate haha.

You really need to know when to tell people "NO" we can't fix or do that.... It took me a number of years to decide that just because you can doesn't make it a wise biz decision. I bet I tell someone no to a job almost once a week now, better not to get sucked in to their disasters up front then to lose time and money.
