Maybe a stupid question..but here goes

Do motorcycle bar-end mirrors have weights to reduce shaking? I'm thinking of trying out some bicycle mirrors, obviously those aren't weighted.

Bicycle bar-end mirrors are like $12.00, I much rather pay that than order some rizoma's or something. But stuck in the back of my mind is "you get what you pay for".

The bicycle ones suck. The one on my triumph actually clamps on the bar end itself so you dont lose the weight. But they are expensive. Im not sure about the rizoma's or motrax

I just saw you've got a buell, do the bar end weights on it now stop the vibrations enough to see out the mirrors?

It actually doesn't have any bar-end weights stock. I do notice shaking at higher speeds which I'd like to get rid of.. I figured that's where a dampener comes into play but if weights help it'd be nice.

Bar end weight act as a vibration dampener they have a peice of rubber between themselves and the handlebar tubing. Honestly the stock bar ends on my SV didnt do much dampening but at cruising speed there was a difference. A cheap bicycle mirror is gonna vibrate even worse out there on the bar end than your stock mirrors do now (ie make them hard to use). So getting some nice rubber mounted bar end mirrors or getting bar ends with clamp on mirrors might help your vibration and make it look better. Buells are cool bikes btw

Cool thanks man, right now I have Ape mirrors on there, they are nice, but I think the bar ends are cleaner looking.

I've been considering theCRG Lane Splitter Mirrors for a while but they aint cheap (http://www.motostrano.com/bilbarendmir.html)

http://www.constructorsrg.com/mirrors/index.html

The CRG Mirrors [and recommended by Motostrano] are probably one of the greatest inventions to hit the sport bike scene along side the all purpose fender eliminator kit. Great visibility. Universal fit. The CRG Folding Billet Bar End Mirror (folds in to prevent breakage during storage-shown) and has a clean unobtrusive look. Machined entirely of Billet aluminum and anodized black, this mirror is as stylish as it is durable. Folding bar end mirrors include sturdy 3" convex mirror mounted in a vibration resistant frame. Each CRG Mirror sold separately.Adaptor kit sold separately. If you do not have bar ends on your bar, you'll need the adaptor kit, which includes 2 adaptors.

Troy you did see that they are sold separately right? Don't go ordering just one like you did that heel guard.

The fact that they're convex should really help with the blurry factor. Not sure why but for some reason they don't seem to blur as much as flat glass.

I need to look at the Buell and see if they'll fit, after riding the Hyper I can't stand not being able to see behind me.

Yeah that's the problem with my bike...EVERYTHING shakes.

Lossen your grip and you wont need weights....

I ride with a fairly loose grip, if I loosen up even more I'd have to let go of the bars entirely.

Ahh I noticed you have a Buell.... NON ROTAX.... I doubt Bar ends would help you to be honest....... Those bikes shake like Secas Moms Butt...

I noticed something on mine, I have the universal billet bar ends from Fatebikez ( Who I will never order from again and recommend that no one here does either). They do vibrate when riding, mine slide into the bar tubing and use an expansion collar to lock down, but as the RPMs increase so does the vibration. I can still see what's behind me, blue sedan or whatnot. If the cop, I assume that's what you want the detail for, has the rooflights I can still see them.

I don't think a steering dampner will reduce your vibration. It'll just keep you from doing a tank-slapping weeble-wobble. :-)

Bar end weights make a major difference in hand comfort at highway speeds on our bikes. Not much difference at idle.

My biggest problem with the bicycle mirror was keeping it pointed in the right direction. They don't lock down very well, and air pressure pushes them out of line. They're better than nothing, though, and at $12 you won't cry if you tip your bike over in the garage and smash them. Bar end mirrors are like huge, pavement-sucking magnets.

For what it's worth I've been using my bicycle mirror for a few months now and I love it. Fits very snug and the vibrations aren't too bad

I don't know if I've ever seen a mirror on a bicycle.
