Ok, not sure this is the place for this but im going to ask here since there are some smart people here ;)

I have an 08 gsxr 600 that i love the look and feel of. I bought it from someone who said they babied it but apparently that was not the case. It does run fine but it has 15K on it and I think im going to do a swap. I want to put an 08-09 GSXR 750 in my 600. I will find the instructions somewhere so thats not an issue, my question is, where do i get the motor? Should I look on craigslist for a used one? Should i find a rebuilt one? Should I get a factory new one? What is my best option?

In the end, i want this to be a sleeper. I want it to look like a 600, say its a 600 but be a nicely modded 750.

Ideas? Thoughts?

first off, anyone that knows anything about bikes, can stand next to the bike, glance down at the motor, and tell its a 750. With that said, it is a direct swap out since the 600/750 motors have the same frame.

As to where to find a motor, naturally your SAFEST bet is to buy new, but be prepared to spend a WAD of $$$. Anything other than that, ebay, craigslist, ect. you should be able to find a 750 motor, naturally, buying one from any of those means, you'll never know the TRUE shape of the motor.

Just sell it and buy a 750, then swap the stickers. They share the same chassis.

Nope.. Same cases ect... Looks Identical.. Just a different Bore, Pistons rings ect... You will need a new ECU, Harness, Airbox and a Speedo... Same goes for the 07-06 600's and 750's... Its a very easy swap but as others said.. Almost easier selling what you have for a 750.. As far as the sleeper comment it will be funny when a 600 still beats you.. There is not that big of a difference between the 2 on the road..

I know this may sound odd but I really want to do this to learn more about my bike. I love working on older cars (when i have one) and now, i have been enjoying doing the simple maintenance stuff (spark plugs, oil, brakes etc). I really want to do this project to pull the bike apart and and put it back together. I dunno, call me strange but sitting in my garage, listening to music with a beer in my hand while tooling on my bike really does sound like a good time to me.

And, if the 750 isnt that much different than the 600, should i maybe make it a challenge and get a 1000 and put it in there ;)

1000 wont work w/o heavy fabrication... And even if it did it the geometry would be way wrong... At least on the 06-08 and up GSX-R's... Now a 09-10 1000 Engine will fit in the 750's of 09-10

like everyone has said, just sell the 6 and buy a 750. If your wanting to learn buy a cheap used bike to take apart and put back together. It will save you a lot of money in the end.

Unless he saw the Throttle Bodies I think it would have to be protested... I think this actually happened.. Again Todd there is no visible difference between the 600-750 engine.. Now the forks are a different story.. At least from the 06-07 standpoint....

Visibly no, but they do sound a touch different and it's easy enough to figure out by digging into it a little.

i stand corrected. I just found out that yes, indeed the motors are identical in outward appearance. BUT, a glance and the motor numbers, and there is a letter in the motor numbers that distinguishes a 600 from a 750, so yea, the tech officials from most any race org. can spot it at a glance. Squids, naaaaa, they'll never know the difference.

I hear Those tech Inspectors put those stickers on quick when you have a couple 20's tucked in the frame sliders... ; )

Hey guys, I got a valid PM about my comments in here and about me putting it for sale. here was / is my response, im not hiding anything:

--- RESPONSE ---
Honestly, i have been mulling around the idea of swapping out the motor because:

1. Im a big guy and a 600 just isnt right for me
2. The girl i bought it from said she babied it around the mountains but turns out, she was just a crappy owner. So i had to go through and replace a lot of stuff which is fine, just unexpected.
3. I have been talking about getting rid of it with my family because I drive it to the center of Atlanta every day and i sware i almost die every day. The morons on 85 (and maybe im one for going on 85) just dont watch out and it scares the shit out of me.
4. Yes, i used the family thing as the sales pitch because its partially the main reason. I honestly didnt want to be called a pussy for selling because of the dangers or given shit because I just got the bike and wanted to swap motors.

I have no problem keeping this bike. At this point, my plans are up in the air. I love riding but am truly scared with these atlanta drivers. So, if that makes me a pussy, so be it.

In the end, i have no problem taking the bike to a shop to get it looked at/certified/whatever. I am not trying to rip anyone off. I think im offering a fair price for what the bike is.

I hope this clarified a little.....

I think you should do a trackday with that 600.... I bet you wouldnt want a bigger bike when you really find out what that thing can do.....

This always makes me laugh and shake my head when i see it.

your not a pussy for not wanting to ride to atlanta, i have riden a bike to atlanta once, and didn't touch 85. I wont go near the perimeter or atlanta period bc of all the retards that drive out there. Sportbikes arn't really made for commuting anyways.

This just hit it on the nail listening to this and I agree. I can't stand Atlanta Traffic and avoid the place at all cost. I've ridden there a few time's on my bike and pretty much can't stand the retards either. People have No clue about proper signal's nor care for that madder. I avoid 285 and (watermelon 400). Yea Sportbikes are not made for commuting and I use my truck for that aspect if I really want to get out that bad.
