Add another to the unemployed bonfire. My last day will be this Friday. Had one last shot at staying with the company, but due to restructuring, it's not going to happen.
So, If anyone knows of anything open in the IT market, I'd love to hear about it. I'll be happy to send my resume to anyone that would like a copy. Ultimately, I'd like to get into the system administration side of things. I've been taking care of physical workstations, servers and and some virtual environments for 13+ years. I've done everything from answer customer calls on a Help Desk to rebuild servers on a clients site. Just wanted to get more into the administrative side so I can learn more.
If you know of anything, please PM me and I'll be very happy to get back to you on it. Thanks.

Thanks folks. I know something is out there for me, just gotta find it is all. An it's not all bad. I've got a month off with pay and then a nice severance to fall back on. So the world isn't coming to an end right away. I just don't know what the hell I'm going to do with myself when I don't have to get up for work next Monday.

Easy, jump on the FJR for a few long trips. It is spring, the world is in bloom. Take some time before jumping back into the job market. A few days on a moto and your head is in a much better place.

That's a serious thought right now. I just have to get over the anxiety of not having a job. It's been over 10 years since I've had to job hunt so, I just need to relax a bit. Bike trip might be just the thing to do it.
Do it, get your head on straight, and then treat the job hunt like a job.

What part of GA are you looking for work?
Calimus
04-29-2010, 06:15 PM
I'm looking in the NW GA, (Cartersville, Kennesaw, Marietta) I'll go farther for the right job, but prefer to keep it close to home if I can. I currently have a copy of my resume at the link below.
Right here (http://www.techography.com/files/resume/WmSnyderResume.doc)
Feel free to pass it around or critique it. I haven't had to job hunt in a long time and am sure my resume skills blow. I'm always open to constructive criticism.

Just an update. I have an interview on Monday. Weather I get the job or not, I hope this gives some of those still looking some hope. Through a lot of networking through old friends, the internet and such, I've gotten a chance at getting my foot in the door. Hopefully, some of you will as well.
I know a lot of folks that haven't gotten a bite on their resume's in 6+ months. Don't give up, keep sending them out and don't hesitate to call those companies in inquire about your resume/application after about a week of not hearing anything. Don't be militant, just call and let them know you would like to speak with someone about the status of things. An even if you do get communication for being turned down, if you can, e-mail or call them and thank them for looking at your resume. Sometimes it can be just the thing that makes them look again, or pass your info to someone else.
Good luck to you all, and wish me some luck on Monday.

Good luck, William. I'm sure you'll do great. That would be awesome to flip around and get back into work that fast. The job market is definitely a fickle place right now.

That is no joke. I'm nervous as hell, I haven't interviewed in almost 12 years and at that time, I massively over qualified. Tables are a bit turned now, but it's a shot to get into the technologies that I really want to be involved with. Will be kinda nice going from a mega-corp to a much smaller shop as well.

I got laid off on May 7 for the third time in 3-1/2 years. I am DONE with the bullshit corporate world. I'm gonna do what makes me happy and make it work.....go back in to coaching (year round swimming) Masters swimmers. After the previous layoff I questioned myself going back to working around Home Depot (as a supplier) and hated it when I did. Now I believe this final layoff to be the sign I needed. Screw em'

Good for you. My 11 year year old daughter is a competitive year round swimmer with the Dawgs of the Athens Bulldogs Swim Club.

Good team. I know the UGA coaching staff very well (Jack, Harvey, Alex) and swam for all of them in some capacity at least once. I grew up swimming mostly for Dynamo.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I'm happy to say that I'm back in the job force. Interview was this morning and I got the job offer just a bit after 6pm. It's been a nice "vacation" but I'm ready to go back to work.

Cool William. I hope I have good luck too. Also in IT. I have a job for a major corp but I work for a couple of tyrants. Hope to make a lateral move soon. Thanks for the inspiration.
