Nice find but nothing new in my book. Speed kills and some like to take risk that's the fact's of life. I 've been on blood mountain a few times but I take my time on road's I don't know too well. I was there last weekend and during the rain I took my time and didn't speed too much. On the dry road's I ride a little faster vs the posted speed limit's (ride within my limits). Let's face it people you can go on Ga 400 and see people driving between 85 to 100 mph on an Suv or truck is this anything different?
New rider's can be the problem's too but not many law's in tack to really do anything about it.

Why would anyone ever act like that. When I got my Gixxer, the first thing I did was order a plus 4 front sprocket! I bought it for the gas mileage after all!

It's nuts on the weekends dude. It's fun to go up with groups though. Hit Helen grab some food and stuff. But if you're looking to get a little speeding on then the weekdays are the times to be up there.

Jeez Laz why don't you sell you bike and Not ride it at all . Seriously most weekend's these places are packed but hell so is Lame Atlanta getting to point A to Z too. I don't like Traffic or cop's like the next person but I always try to find areas that are not soo packed. I rode last weekend in the rain to Helen and it was a good ride but i was missing out on speeding on the curves (oh dam).

How do you get your bike to the mountains?
Derrick

Yeah, tooling around metro Atlanta in the traffic just sucks, especially on a bike, IMO. It's not THAT crowded up there every weekend. That little stretch of 129 is the most popular, but there are plenty more great roads up there that are far less traveled.

You are one strange little dude. Amazing, cars on 129 who would of thunk it?
Actually the cars add a bit of fun to the whole run. when you are doing 2, 3 , 4 times their speed it is like they become slalom gates, just something to move around, you don't really focus on them as you are looking so far past them.

And what most of the local cage drivers do every day. I live in Blairsville, approximately 15 minutes from Walasi-Yi, and I have to cross Blood Mountain on 129 twice a day, four days a week (minimum) for my commute. The amount of > two-wheeled traffic using all three lanes greatly outweighs the amount of motorcycle traffic that I see at all. This includes 18 wheelers and a surprising number of dually contractor trucks. This is a well beaten horse, so I digress, but I feel that it's my backyard and I can speak with some authority. If they want to crack down on life in the oncoming lane, motorcyclists are a very small part of the problem.
However, the warm weather does bring out the calamari. This is why I ride the mountain roads at night this time of year.

I have been going up into and over the mtns in North GA since I was born with my parents as we have had a cabin in Hiawassee for my whole life. After the death of my father my brother and I now own it and continue to go up there. Using ALL of the road (where sightlines permit) is the most efficient way to cross the mtn.
Mtn folk love having city slickers on their fancy motorscooters come up there and tell them how to stay in their lanes. Sorry but it doesnt work that way. Believe me when I tell everyone its not the locals crashing in the mtns up there. Its the idiots who watch Rossi on speedtv and dont know their ass from a hole in ground who go up there and try to "go fast".

Using ALL of the road (where sightlines permit) is the most efficient way to cross the mtn.
Of course. And that's why most of us go up there. We get up on a summer Saturday, put on our gear, lube that which needs it, fill our tank and spend all day going nowhere and back in a relentless pursuit of transportation efficiency.

That's a better way to say it rather than for me to generalize that folks who cross the double yellow don't have skill. I guess that is where I miss the concept though. If I want to go fast on a straight road, I'll go to a straight road. I won't straighten out a twisty road just to go fast. I'm not a good enough rider to do curvy and super fast; and I'll take curves every time. It's just a difference in priorities. I'm surfer not a racer.
Still I think we are all in violent agreement (in this semi-monthly warm season horse-beating) that using all the pavement on a public road is right dangerous, especially knowing that folks coming the other way might be doing the same thing.

I think you meant "it infuriates' vs in infuriates" me more to get stuck from some Moron going lower then the posted speed limit. I'll pass on a double when I feel it's safer and have done it plenty of times with the bike or truck. I know Troy has passed a few peeps going too dam slow and hell I don't blame him. I am also not doing 300 mph:lol: but I understand your point. For the record I no longer ride on the street but my opinion stands that I personally think hauling ass in the mtns and using pavement where pavement exists to accomplish that and have fun is the preferred way to ride FOR ME. Others may disagree and choose to ride in a single lane and go slower. I have no problem with that. If you will take notice, unlike Wally and others here who attempt to make jokes and cast those of us who ride in the manner I choose to as being wrong, I dont try to persuade everyone who rides slow to try to go faster. Some probably could. Others clearly dont have the skills. Again though, unlike other people, I neither point those things out to them or try to convince them to go faster. I am not so sure why, unless one's name is Johnny Law, these people always try to those of us who choose to ride or did ride a specific way on a PUBLIC road to go slower or stay in one lane. If the mtn road has three lanes, 2 going up and one coming down, the two going up are going to have dashed lines between them. Last I checked dashed lines mean I can switch between them unless there are special rules for a motorcycle I am unaware of.
You could say the same thing about 285 but what's the point?
Whats the point of riding on 285 going fast and making it "curve"? I dont know. Perhaps some of stunnas from the Varisty crew and the 285 200 club could answer your question. I see no point in riding on 285 AT ALL which is why I dont/didnt ride on it. Unlike 285 however I would ride in the mtns in the manner I described because that is how I enjoyed riding up there. Additionally, and unlike 285, the mtns offer scenic views, elevation changes, little traffic and for me a destination as I have a house up there. So comparing the two seems rather ignorant in my opinion but again and like above, just because I dont think riding a bike on 285 makes sense doesnt mean I am going to tell you not to.

... Perhaps some of stunnas from the Varisty crew and the 285 200 club could answer your question.
It would probably be the same basic answer except they would say "on 285" instead of "in the mountains". I ride on 285 but only to get from where I am to where I need to be. Since I have ridden both places, I understand both the differences and also the similarities. Since you don't/didn't ride on 285, maybe it's your ignorance that prevents you from understanding the point of the question.
Or maybe not since you did, actually, answer my question. You think it's fun to go so fast you need both lanes. Good enough. I didn't say it was wrong. I asked you what the point was.
And, yeah, I could run 129 a lot faster than I do if I used both lanes. But for me that's not the point of spending two hours getting to a twisty road. And that is my point. But suit yourself.
