That's a motorcycle acquisition problem!

I just bought this beautiful and pristine '08 Yellow DL650 just 2 months ago with 2700 miles on it - http://www.georgiasportbike.com/showthread.php?625-Sarah-s-on-the-move-again

Sarah and my Dad were even generous enough to go fetch it for me while I was stuck at home working all weekend. :D

Well, I really do like the Yellow and I've even already put 5k miles on it since I bought it, but I absolutely love the Orange even more. Since the Orange's came out in '09, they were hard to find used and definitely couldn't find one in my price range when I was looking a few months back. Heck, I was lucky enough to find the yellow one in a price I wanted to pay.

In the past week though, the Orange Strom's seem to be coming out of the wood work and yesterday the stars aligned for me. An Orange 09 model DL650 showed up on CL with 4100 miles in perfect shape and Sarah was more then willing to tell me to go get it. So tomorrow morning, I'll be on a plane to Tulsa, OK to ride this beautiful 09 DL650 in Orange back home. Maybe it was because I didn't get to go fetch my Yellow one myself! :p Once back home, all my farkles will get transferred from the Yellow Strom to the Orange Strom. The Yellow one will have to go on the chopping block though. :crying: Its been a good bike, but someone else will have to enjoy her.

My new love affection (besides Sarah!) BTW, if you are counting, this is my 5th Vstrom since May of 06!

'04 DL650 - 40k miles (May 06 to Dec '07)
'04 DL1000 - 30k miles (Jan '08 to Oct '08)
'07 DL650 - 18k miles (Nov '08 to July '09)
'08 DL650 - 5k miles (Mar '10 to May '10)
'09 DL650 - coming soon!

BTW, the guy selling this Orange one is a retired gentleman that is only selling it because he went out and bought a brand new 2009 Grey DL650 with ABS. So he's selling his current strom because of a new strom and I'm selling mine to get a new strom!

Keep an eye on the SPOT map and you can track my progress starting tomorrow morning.

the first part in any healing process is admitting you have an addiction and giving up your addiction. I'm sure there are quite a few people who can help take your addiction away from you. I could use another bike.......

Actually, our garage is thinned out. 2 street bikes and 2 dirt bikes and that's it. As soon as the Orange one is here, the yellow one will be going on sale.

Congrats!

Dude, what's your approach when searching for bikes? It seems like you buy a lot of your bikes from places other than the Atlanta area and I'm just curious what kinda resources you use to find 'em.

I have an RSS feed setup for any bikes I'm looking for on CL or where ever around the US. Its easy to scan through them that way. I also check the forums dedicated to those kind of bikes.

LOL Just dropped Dan off at the airport. I'll let everyone know when he lands and turn on his Spot.

Well, I never made it out today. First flight was a total freak job. There were 30+ seats available this morning when we left for the airport and I was like #14 on the stand by list. By the time I got there, there were 20+ people on standby (I was down to spot #21), but only 15 extra seats. :(

I hung around and they ended up changing planes which added about 10 more seats so I thought I was good again, but when it came down to the grind, I missed it by 2 seats.

Onto the next plane, 4 seats available and I was #4. Everyone loaded and the rep said she was going to count bags and stuff, comes back and says they can't accommodate anyone else like they were out of luggage space, but still had seats? WTF? Not a single stand by person got on. The next 2 flights were booked, so I said screw it and had Sarah come pick me up. It probably was for the best though as Tulsa had rain all day and was getting pretty soaked. Tomorrow is looking better.

It wasn't a total waste though since Sarah and I went and picked up my Dad and took him to BMW where we spent all afternoon and he ended up walking out of there with a 2010 1200RT - [url=http://blokessportbike.com/showthread.php?t=50689].

Back to the airport tomorrow morning with 33 seats available and I'm #2 on the list with 4 in standby. Hopefully things will work out.

Why all the standby angst? How do you fly? Ticket to Tulsa is $300, right now, AA this afternoon.

Well, today is cheaper, but yesterday flights were 600+ for a direct flight on Delta and 450+ for 1-2 stops. Originally I was going to buy a ticket for Sat as it was $267 with 2 stops, but I thought I would give standby a shot. Its been the first time I've tried it.

WooHoo! Dan finally got on a flight! He should be landing out in Tulsa around 10:30 (11:30 our time). You can track his flight here:

Yeah that 267 matches the flight I was looking at (after taxes and fees are added). More expensive again tomorrow. It's a wild and unpredictable game they play. How much would the standby thing cost? What's the deal with that? I sometimes fly standby to get on an earlier flight than what I booked, but it doesn't save me any money.

The journey of 770 miles began with 2 bumped flights and 1 tire with a nail in it. But Dan's finally on the road back from Arkansas.

Woohoo, I made it back this afternoon at 4:30pm ET with just a tad over 800 miles over 2 days. Even with quite a late start on Sat, I still managed to get 345 miles before I called it a night.

Thank goodness for the weather on my GPS. it helped me avoid a few big storms. I stayed north of Little Rock last night since the storms were coming from the south. I still got in some rain and called it a night in Wynn.

I got up bright and early thing morning and hit the road. I made a few ventures off the slab, again to avoid some big storm cells. I even found some gravel roads in MS!

I took one small strom on US78 before B'ham, but then by the time I got to Birmingham, the storms were closing in and I had no way to get around them, so I took a nice 30 min heavy shower. I headed south of I-20 around Talladega and took back roads in from there.

The bike is extremely clean and just what I expected.
