View Full Version : Laptop ideas....
I have to get a new computer since the lightning strike tooks ours out. We are looking at the HP Pavilion 17.3" (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Laptop+with+AMD+Turion%26%23153%3B+II+Ul tra+Dual-Core+Mobile+Processor+-+Espresso+Black/9700814.p?id=1218152462714&skuId=9700814) laptop from Best Buy. Anyone have any opinions on this laptop? Seams to have pretty good reviews.

I have two HP 17 laptops on my table right now and both have been great One is going on 4yrs old (Ithink) and the other is just over a year. Only two issues: 1) I lost the power supply on one of them a couple weeks ago, 10 dollar replacement and up and running again 2) sometimes the cd-rom door has a mind of it its own and will pop out.

I don't like Hp computers at all but have there printers and there decent . I have a Toshiba laptop and overall been very happy with the speed and performance on the Amd Turion x2. If your really want something Nice go for a Apple that's my next computer. Apple is going to be 2 times the price but in my opinion the Operating system is vastly better vs Windows 7 depending on what type of programs you run on it.
Look at Cr reports before you buy Toshiba is rated pretty High. Ill try to scan the review I have in front of me.

Apple is great except that I'm typing this on a Dell since my MacBook Pro had a second motherboard go back only a few months after it was replaced...

I'm a Toshiba disciple. I've had four in a row and they are tough and work great. But I don't buy the cheap ones. Over the four, the price has probably averaged close to $2K. But I order them with extra ram and got Satellite Pro's. They really stand up to the abuse I hand out. I carry my laptop everywhere and use it in really tough conditions from subfreezing to tropical hot and humid. I've dropped them all at least once or twice and never had to have them repaired for that. In fact, the only thing I've ever had really go wrong was when I got the keyboard on one pretty wet and the keyboard died. I got it repaired enough to dump the HD to an external drive and replaced it. It was time for a new one anyway. I generally replace them every 3 or 4 years.

Get a Lenovo Thinkpad, or GTFO!
j/k, there are quite a few pretty decent laptops on the market now. Don't get a Mac unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money getting into, and working within their ecosystem.

I own either Dell or Apple MacBook. My Dell Inspiron conked when the motherboard went. Couple years ago my wife brought a MacBook. That thing is cool. It was expensive but never had any problems, viruses, etc. Its been worth it. My wife got 2 HP laptops from her job that are pretty cool. I dont really use them tho, only to look at a few websites.
