Bought one of the JC Whitney top cases that Sear's was selling back in March. Picked up a used SV pillion seat and then let them both sit in the hallway for 2 months. :myfault: Finally had the free time and the motivation to get the project done. So, off David and I went to the garage. Here are a few pics of the progress and the final outcome. Now, commuting to work and weekend trips will be a little more comfortable. Thanks go to BlueLghtning for suggesting the use of the extra seat for mounting the top case and i-man for helping get the whole project done. Although, the scream while I was drilling the seat you were holding was not funny.

Picture of seat after removing padding and re-covering. In this picture, you can see the 4 holes that were drilled through the cover and seat for the mounting brackets.

After inserting the bolts through the mounting plate, the seat and the brackets, I installed it on the bike to check fit and clearance. Making sure that the bolts don't hit anything under the seat.

I laughed, after I realized I really didn't hit him with the drill. Of course, he did move a little further away from me after that.

Great job. You're gonna love it. Having the top case on the FJR is soooo convenient.

I'm sure she is going to love it. The backpack she's been carrying is pretty heavy with her gym clothes and lunch stuff in it. Not to mention, it doesn't promote good air flow. Now she can just throw it in the top case. It will also come in handy for short weekend trips and stuff like that. For the price, it was a great investment. She has less than 100 bucks in the brand new case and used seat. I would definitely suggest that anybody needing more storage space on their ride, pick one up.

Hopefully tomorrow I will find out how well I like it. Definitely be glad to not have all that weight on my back while I'm riding and the air flow in traffic will be a welcome change.

So how did you like it? I had the same set up on my old 636 and it worked well. On the VFR I actually made a bracket that attached to the grab handles but that was b/c it was one big seat and I wasn't destroying the Seargant seat!

So far it's been great. I rode several days last week and it was very nice to not have the backpack on the whole time. I don't even notice it back there because it sits far enough back that I don't hit it while riding. It has gone through a rain shower and everything was still dry inside. All in all, I think it was a worthwhile investment.

Having luggage is so nice and now you can see why almost all my bikes had at least this setup with a case on the rear set, or a rack with luggage. It just makes motorcycle riding much more convenient and easy to do an a regular basis.

+1 and it is nice to lock your helmet inside when you get where your going. It is just one less thing to have to carry around which definitely makes it more convenient.

It has been very nice and I am looking forward to being able to go for longer rides now since I can carry a change of clothes, etc without the hassle of the backpack.

Putting the helmet and jacket in there when I arrive for work has been nice. Unfortunately, that's all that fits but it's better than having to tote it all inside.
