If Obama sent them, he probably instructed them to be escorts in helping them cross.

No. No, that's not true. If you look closely at what Obama does vs. what Obama says, you will find that his actions, especially in the realm of the use of federal government power, are pretty consistent with previous, more overtly conservative presidents. He has fought long and hard to preserve executive powers that Bush was granted in the panicky aftermath of 9-11. Glenn Greenwald often irritate me, but he is relentless in his pursuit of government attacks on our civil rights. He did say that he was going to run his presidency like Reagan....

Glanced over the article and I do believe that military prisoners held in conflict zones do not have the right to habeas corpus nor should they during the course of a war. I do question the ability to transfer prisoners who are not caught in direct action of the war to those war prisons.

I don't know why. Obama will take care of the immigration issue.

Sort of an important point. It means that anybody can be arrested and moved to a "war prison" and then denied habeas corpus because of the prison they're in. Sort of a trick they've discovered which goes against the constitution. It's one of many battles that Obama has quietly fought with the judicial branch over the power of the administrative branch. Follow the links to other Greenwald articles. It's his favorite cause.

this just in -- the 1,200 tropps will be UNARMED national guard troops. they might as well send 1,200 grannys to knit sweaters for the the criminals.

And they'll escort those crossing the border straight to the voting booths.

As disappointing as it is, more eyes and ears are better than none.
