I had a quick question about rainsuits. I am thinking about getting a rainsuit especially for these summer ATL afternoon showers to ride home from work. Question is, when you wear a rainsuit, do you wear your normal armored jacket ontop of the suit or the rainsuit by itself?

If you dont wear your Armour under it you would be taking a huge chance on the wet.. Rain dosent soften concrete... Alpinestars makes a great clear suit that goes over your leathers...

The rainsuit goes over your normal gear.
Frogg Toggs are the cheapest option, pack small, work good and breathe better then most, so you don't die of a heat stroke as soon as the sun comes back out. They don't last forever though, but are cheap enough $40 you can buy a new set each year or two and be okay.
The PVC type rain suits are more expensive and usually last longer (until you tear them at the seams), but in the summer, as soon as the rain stops and the sun comes back out, its like being in an oven.

...and that is what I was thinking more about is the heat. Not that I would sacrifice protection over being hot but it definitely crossed my mind about the heat of the suit and also packing the suit in the bag.

I commute everyday on my bike rain or shine. In the wet I wear the Icon PDX Rain jacket and pants. Albeit a bit pricey Ive ridden in insane winds and rain and stayed completely dry. I wear it all over my normal clothes/gear and the pants roll up nicely in my Icon Squad II pack. I just wear the jacket regardless... its all Hi-Viz Orange (though you can get 'em in Hi-Viz Yellow and Black and "Infantry" green also)

Those are cool there Snafu. I like the bib pants. My first two days I rode my bike to work last year, I was caught in the typical summer afternoon shower. Jacket was good because water/windproof but the pants of course were soaked. Have to put those on the list also.

PVC rain suit should be about $25. wear it a few times and toss it. been there done that.
i've got the tourmaster sentinal suit now. bought it a few years ago when I was commuting from downtown to rome every day. got a solid workout. works great, and still take it on long weekend rides. waterproof/breathable, and pretty bombproof.
I would get a bright color. in the rain, silver/black rain suits are like wearing urban camo. never did understand people that have dark colored rain gear. reflective piping is nice as well. I sometimes ride a cruiser so I got the pants with nomex lined lower legs so they don't melt on the pipes.

I do not have a long commute & I do not mind geting wet on my ride home. However, I have thought of getting Frogg Toggs. My friends say that they pack small & wear fairly comfortable.

something that can be folded up in the backpack is a definite advantage. Lot of weather changes from Covington to Alpharetta and vice versa.

I know Cyclegear sales the Frogg Toggs. I would recommend stopping by and trying them on with your riding gear on. That way you get the right size.

I've generally found that Frogg Toggs are roomy enough to buy the size you normally wear and they fit over your gear. I have XL which is what I wear normally in gear.
