For open I just like the Fobus. Its easy to slip into you jeans/hip and secures the gun well. My concealed for my G27 is a Don Hume. Something like this:

would there be an advantage or disadvantages of an open vs. concealed? i would prefer one like the cops have that has a strap that snaps over the top.
The one you posted gamecock looks pretty good, does it hold on to your belt?

Fobus sucks, get a serpa or an i-tac

For open I would agree with Hughduffel about the serpa. For concealed I love my Crossbreed Supertuck. Wouldn't trade it for any other IWB.

You can use an OWB holster to carry a gun concealed; I do it frequently. That said, the 19 is a bit larger than my carry piece. OWB is definitely more comfortable than IWB in my opinion. If you want an IWB, I'd go with a Comptac M-tac (I used to have a c-tac, but the m is more comfortable). OWB...eh, it depends. there are plenty that do the trick.
Also, and I know you probably won't listen to this (most people prefer to go through a good number of holsters before they realize something else may be off), but get a good gun belt. A great holster can feel like shit if you're wearing a belt that you got from Kohl's. A gun belt is WAY more rigid and won't sag or twist.

Yeah the Supertuck or M-Tac are, IMO, the best two holsters for IWB carry. They are very comfortable and you can tuck in your shirt if you need to. I carry my xd40sc in my Supertuck 12hrs a day M-F while at work and have never had a problem with it bothering me. After about 30 mins I forget its even there. I like my Supertuck because of the steel clips, but I would have went with the M-tac with the changable kydex bodies if I had more than one carry pistol. If this is just going to be for camping out in the woods and you don't really plan on carrying on a daily basis I would say that the serpa would be a good way to go. Easy to take off and put back on If you need to and it locks the pistol in the holster.

+1 on the Blackhawk. I have 2 and like them. I can see how they might wear out after a lot of use, but for the occasional user, like myself, they are great.

I love my CompTac CTAC. It works great, it is comfortable, and adjustable.

A Blackhawk should run no more than $30-35 in a decent gun shop or sporting goods store, probably even cheaper on eBay. I have seen them as high as $55 in small shops.

thanks for all the advice from everyone, i went yesterday and got a blackhawk serpa for 29.99 at academy sports in athens. I went to clydes armory originally and they were 44.99 but they came with a belt and paddle holster clip instead of just the paddle clip. im very pleased with it.

This is the holster I have. It is hands down the best holster I have ever used. I have the model with the hip paddle, which makes it extremely sturdy on your hip.
