Got a 07 zx6r and a 06 zx10r that developed the same problem this weekend at roebling and caused me to miss all races! They seem like they aren't running on all cylinders, just bog down and won't pull. Sitting there revving them, they are sucking air and just bog.

Background:
Ran barber 2 weeks ago, ran both bikes with VP U4.4. Ran great. It was raining at the end so I packed up and went home without draining the tanks...I know stupid. But several seem to think that a couple weeks shouldn't be bad. So bikes sat in trailer till this weekend. Headed to roebling, picked up some 93 octane pump gas to mix in for practice and the solo. Took the 600 out ran like crap. Wouldn't pull and couldn't get it past 4th and 100mph on the straight. Took power commander and ignition module off and still same problem so it's not that. Pulled the plugs and all are firing. It's runs like it on 2 cyclinders.

Gave up on the 600 and decided to run the 1000. Without considering it would be the gas (either vp or pump), I siphoned the 600 fuel into the 1000 on top of the vp that was already in there. It ran fine for one practice session. Went out in the 2nd session and at lap 3 or 4, it started doing the same thing! It runs ok when you first crank it and then it goes south. Plus the fuel light comes on yet there is plenty of fuel in it! Fuel pump maybe? When I pull the hose off the pump, it still dribbles fuel out where the 600 doesn't allow any fuel out of the pump unless the bike is on.

So either the 4.4 doesn't sit in a bike as well as the 4.2 did last year, or I got horrible pump gas. Either way, what all do I go through to clean, check out, replace, etc? I've searched and saw mostly things on carbs, not much for fuel injection bikes. Please help... and keep the flames to a minimum, just trying to get things straight for this weekend at tally!!!

Note, it was 102 degrees in the shade at roebling if that makes a difference and the bikes have been in the trailer in Atlanta....

its the VP. Pull the airbox, clean throttle bodies, spray LOTS and LOTS of carb cleaner in it while running. Hopefully that will solve your problem. Also you'll probably have to pull the fuel pump and clean it as well. VP is hit or miss as for leaving it in the bike. Ive had it gum the shit out of mine in just a matter of days, and sometimes ive left it in for a couple of months with no issues. Its the best fuel out there, but youve GOT to empty it within a day or two of the race weekend to be 100% you dont get the gumming issue.

Thanks Todd...

so how do you suggest cleaning the pump? got a link of how to?

And for the carb cleaner, just spray down the intakes with the air box off?

This would be great if it works so that I don't have to truck them up to huff daddy's tomorrow!!!

Another reason I dont run VP...... Nikk.. Take your fuel pumps out.. remove rthe internal filters and toss them.. You will need new filters and now would be a good time to put on External filters with some FI Line.... Let your Pumps soak in a bucket of regular Gas overnight and slosh it around in the AM before letting them dry..

Supposedly, one of the big benefits of 4.4 over the 4.2 was the fact it is supposed to be much more stable and not gum up when left sitting. That's according to VP, so that could be advertizing mumbo jumbo.

That's what I thought. Evidently the heat increases the chance of this kind of crap!

Where's the best place to get the filters? If it's got internal filters in the pump, what does and external filter do to help and what is FI line?

I got hi flow filters for my TLR @ Autozone... Go to the kawi forums and I am sure thy have a filter number to do this mod.. Basically you ditch the internal one and run Fuel Injection hose (Goodyear) in the pump to simply bypass where the internal one was.. Then you run another piece of FI line on the outside of the tank to the injectors/Fuel rail with the new external filter (Pointing in the right direction) in the middle... The best thing about this is when you need to replace the filter again you DONT have to rmove the fuel pump... Nikk I will be out of town Weds-Mon this week but if you need a hand doing this let me know... I would be more than happy to help...

Nikki, if you picked up gas at that Chevron on the corner , right next to the track.......THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!! IT WAS ANNOUNCED THAT THEY HAD BAD GAS!!!. I bought some and used it and it caused my bike to sputter and eventually I went down in turn 1 with an unexpected sputter as I was getting ready to break which made me miss my break marker and .....BITE IT!!!!!

IT'S NOT GOOD TO LET VP SIT EITHER!.................
