What do these do?

Besides look cool, what does the sweatband do around the, what I like to call, the pee cup?

Keep the fluid cool, and not burst......from what I was told and it makes sense ( I have one)

adds an extra 1 hp... drilling holes on the lower fairings also gives an extra 25 mph top speed.

Just like Tire Shine makes you take corners faster and get better mpg by reducing friction :bsmeter:

I wondered that too, but I have been told by the "Oracle"' that unless the fluid sits out in the hot sun all day, it really does little than look cool. There are tinted resevoirs that do the same thing. I am putting one on mine

The main use it to keep brake fluid from getting on your bike if the "pee cup" ever leaks.

don't listen to any of these folks - they were designed to create subject matter on bike forums when the topic of "what oil should I use?" gets old.

One of the main goals when they formulate break fluid to make it stable at high temps. The sun won't come close to heating your break fluid compared the breaks themselves. No way could the sun cause it to expand and pop the reservoir. The sweat band is a way to display another sponsor name on the bike.

Please refrain from using factual information when replying to a post. It confuses the locals.

If a reservoir isn't cracked and is leaking, it is due to being overfilled. There is a vent in the cap to allow the rubber membrane to fill the void left as the brake pads wear, without creating a vacuum on the top of the rubber membrane. If your fluid gets low, you either have a leak (below the reservoir) or your pads are worn.

1st off you don't have to buy one from Huey!

2nd I use them in case the res leaks. I know it saved the paint on my tuono when I drove it home from the shop and the cap was loose. I would have gotten fluid on the tank and ruined it. It also looks better

I've always heard it to keep the fluid from sunlight/UV.

Mongo
06-08-2010, 04:42 PM
Heard that too but sunlight won't break down the fluid. Otherwise they couldn't use the opaque plastic and they'll all be in metal like the old days.

It makes you look like a poser. Plus, if you'd leave the reservoir cap alone, or let a professional do it, it wouldn't leak all over your fuel tank.

It makes you look like a poser.

I am sincerely curious......

....was there 1 guy in the beginning of time who did things in such a way that really we are all posers? I mean seriously....what defines a poser? The very definition of the word "pose" is to imply that someone or something is not authentic and is in fact impersonating someone or something else.

How would one attempt to be like a "real rider", and by definition be posing as a real rider by using one of these, if the "real riders":lol:dont even use them? I never ran them. I dont know that I would run them. I understand they are basically for cosmetic purposes but then customizing one's bike is purely that person's choice.

I am trying to be like you by doing things you dont do and that makes me a poser

Glad that clears things up:lol:

If its to customize, that is one thing entirely. When the brake system is serviced by someone who knows what is going on, they don't overfill reserviors, they tighten the caps correctly and don't have these issues. Therefore he's either a poser or he's accessirizing- sorta like a nice new scarf to match his heels.

Troy, I really don't care if you use one or not. Like Frank, I prefer to service the brake system properly.

TroyBoy30
06-11-2010, 11:24 AM
yea cause servicing it properly means you will never have an unexpected issue with leakage right? i guess that's why you have to safety wire stuff for a track day? but if you serviced it right things wouldn't fall off would they? Or maybe you're perfect...or delusional

I'd rather be safe than sorry and it has saved my paint before so i will stick with it. if you don't like them don't use them, but don't ridicule someone simply because you don't agree with there decision.

KTM Rider

Perhaps I am mistaken here but it is my understanding from Troy's posts that his system leaked after it was serviced by MarMo? Is that correct Troy?

If so, then it would seem that it was serviced by a professional but it still leaked since we all make mistakes.

I dont really like those sweatband things. The only thing I would think they are good for (and yes a gay man showed me this:lol:) would be for a place to store the sweatband when you arent using it on your left shoe. He would put it on his left show when he rode so the shifter wouldnt mess up his shoes. When he parked the bike, he would take it off and put it on the reservoir. That has utility. Outside of that they are purely cosmetic however just like if someone painted their bike pink it is their choice.

.

no it leaked after purchasing from AMW and they did the brake recall on it. It was till serviced by a professional shop and yes mistakes do happen! it was fixed at MARMO after we noticed it. The sweat band saved the paint. Plain and simple

thank you for also giving us the choice to make our own decisions, like we needed it
