So, my mother just bought an ipad for her trip to Europe this summer and wants me to put some movies on it for her.

Whats the best way to to covert a VOB into a recognizable format...preferably for free.

Tell me about it. I felt so dirty just being in the apple store and I'm still uneasy giving Jobs my CC today.

I've never used the iPad one, but I can say from personal experience that their xbox converter works as advertised. It has simple and advanced modes, and works well, and quickly (relatively.. I'm sadly on an old laptop).

On any of the convertors just watch the output and make sure it's not greater than what the iPad is, only real issue I've heard of is the frame rate - it has to be 30fps or lower. Granted not a single movie I've ripped for mine has been above it so I doubt that's something you'll run across often.

I used videora for my ipod, its not terribly complicated.
