I have a 2 story home and recently my lower part Is not getting cool. The unit comes on but blows warm , I think it's blowing hot , but it is so hot outside it is hard to tell. When I cut the unit on by the control box it shows a Green light meaning cool is on, I go outside and the unit comes on. The drain pipe is not leaking at all , could this be stopped up causing no air?

Correct me if I am wrong but if the A/C unit comes on does this means it is not low in Freon ? Or could the unit come on and be low/out of freon ?

Please help thank you

If the inside unit is coming on, and the compressor is coming on (outside unit), check the inside unit for ice forming on the coils. If the compressor outside is low of freon, you'll get the symptoms you just described. Yes, it can be low of freon and still come on, it just wont cool. If its low of freon, then the coils inside will typically freeze up and the air that comes out your vents in the house will def. NOT be cold.

PM "Chand" here on the board. He's owns his own A/C business and can probably help you out.

It will still come on even if it is low on freon, usually it would freeze up. It is a possibility that the relay switch in the outside unit is not working properly. I would suggest calling a hvac company or find a hvac friend and get them to check it out.

After thinking and thinking I hooked my gauges up Full of freon It had around 60 ish lbs while not running...So enough , But one side it was freezing up , so i took the fan off the top to gain access to the By pass valve on the heat pump . And Tapped on it , and still nothing.I tried contacting Chand but he had to call me back later .While waiting I just couldn't give up after thinking I went to turn the heat up if it was reversed maybe I could turn the heat on and the a/c would work. Nope didn't but I notice the heat was not working , took the thermostat off and went bought another one BINGO ....A/c is working like it should and heat also....Thank you all for trying to help!!!

Check your filter too. A dirty filter will cause that to happen as well.

For future reference there is another guy on the "other" board, his user name is K4MJK, he has helped me and Fascia in the past. He is really quick to respond and REALLY cheap compared to other HVAC guys.
