Can never decide where to post these questions, hope here is fine.
Anyone know ballpark what it would cost to have a couple of wheels powder coated? Nothing crazy on the wheels, like factory GSXR wheels. Not sure if color matters, but white. Don't need an exact amount, just kind of a ballpark. Thanks!
Im sure he'll be along shortly, but Lorne over at OverTwoCustomes (see the banner at the top of the page?) , he does powder coating. Give him a call.

Price will depend on how the wheels arrive. Color doesnt make a big difference in price. Candy colors cost more because its more materials and more time involved. You can powdercoat over factory paint.

$45 a wheel would be generous at best.
If the wheel arrives stripped of previous coatings , no tire, and only minimal prep cleaning before powder coating then $45 a wheel wouldnt be too bad of a deal.
To strip a set of wheels takes at least an hour, usually 2, down to the bare metal. Cleaning the wheel takes another 30 minutes. Powder coating is a good 45 minute process per set depending on coverage and color.
At OTC our rates vary on how the bike arrives.
$250
- Drop bike off
- Remove wheels
- Remove tires
- Remove paint
- Prep wheel
- Powder coat wheel
- Mount tires
- install on bike
- Pick bike up with new powder coated wheels.
$175
- drop off set of wheels
- Remove tires
- Remove coating on wheels
- Powder coat wheels
- Re mount tires on wheels
$125
- Wheels arrive with no tires
- Prep wheels for powder coat
- Powder coat wheels
At best you're looking at 2 hours of labor to properly do a set of wheels.

45 per wheel... with no rubber on it and already stripped. It would cost that much to sandblast a wheel let alone powder coat it.

Pro Cryo and ask for Lynda. She charges $100 for both wheels, have multiple sets done with her and the job is amazing.

That shop has done all my race bike wheels. The amount of tires i get slung on and off would tire you thinking about and the wheels always look like the day i got them. That is where i gave my $45 a wheel price from and was just going to keep names out to help ya out Lorne but on this one Pro Cryo can get it done for that price and the work is fantastic. Get the tires taken off first and get the berrings taken out also before you go.

No biggie. I just like to keep people informed of the difference you pay from a shop to a powder coater. A lot of my customers dont have the means to remove both wheels and tires before they come in. When you call a "powder coating" company they are pricing you based on typically a raw finish on arrival. ProCryo does fantastic work as well as Miller powder coating in Lilburn but neither have the ability to put your bike on stands, remove the wheels, tires, and bearings if need be.

he painted the center of my powdercoated orange rims on the GSXR. He didn't do my wheels only levers and smaller things that would fit in his stove. His powdercoat work was good too.

Wow from a place that does steller work for $100 for the set of wheels to Marietta Motorsports maybe charging $450 a set. That definately needs some time to think over.

so they charge 300 to take tires off, bearings and rotors and reinstall? (giving 50 for profit on powdercoating and pickup/del)

I find MarMo to be pretty reasonable, even if they are outsourcing just the PC it still shouldn't be that much.

I was just up there and they had a sign and I talked to them about it,and the sign said 400 but they said they had to change it to 450 because they got into some trouble or something for being at 400.also you or anyone else can call up there.

you can't tell him Chris he's the guy that found Marietta Motorsports. Guys that have been around here a while know that Pro Cryo is the best around. If he wants to get suckered into giving Huey $450 then let him do it.

$450 for powder coating?????? dang!!! we dont do small parts or wheels or anything unless it is just a plain ole black.. we do metal fences , gates, railings etc. and all our products we powder coat at the shop.. i actully did all my own powder coating on my bike.. if i knew for a fact that we where going to powder coat anytime soon i would say drop it off but business is so slow i dont know when we wil be running the powder..
But good luck with everything

Ya i undetstand , i was just amazed on the cost, its understandable i mean they prob doing that for a living. Along with all the other custom shops. like i said it just sounded high just for the fact that i prob wount ever get anyone to powder coat anything for me or anything like that .. dont get me wrong powder is expensive.. and getting it started is expensive and heck u got the stuff to do it or u dont.. and if u dont u got to pay for it.. just like everything els in life... but i will say this though $45 is cheap as can be and he wount get a better deal than that.. (tire already stripped and cleaned) heck powder alone cost more than $45 ..

Every motorcycle forum Ive been on, even the best powdercoat jobs, never seem to cost more than $250. In fact basic colors typically ran around $50 a wheel. $450 is outrageous unless you're planning on getting the frame, hangers, casings etc. done. For $450 I'd hope half my bike was pced.

My oven in its former life was actually a freezer. I converted a box freezer into a standup oven. About 4ft x 3ft x 3ft.

Not knocking any shop personally, but every bike i've owned I have had Pro Cryo do the wheels. Lynda is awesome, and quiet frankly she could charge so much more for the quality you get back. I spent an hour up there with her going through every single color sample she had to find the perfect gold on big blue. And she did the same thing when I had a 600RR and took the wheels to be bright ass orange.
