Anyone know of a good local place that can repair leathers that were lightly damaged in a crash?
Must be someone who knows about motorcycle gear - I wouldn't trust the stitching or work quality at a place that doesn't specialize in this.

Website or phone number would be appreciated.

Do a search for Ann Turner out in Marietta I think... If outside of Ga Alexa at Syderworks is the Bomb.. Well worth the shipping...

Thanks. Not having much luck with the search for Ann Turner (tried searching both the forums here and a regular Google search). Found Spyderworks and will contact them for pricing, but would prefer a local shop (I'm in Kennesaw so Marietta would be perfect).

I believe Ann moved. I had her fix my leathers last year around October and she talked about moving to Arizona. Here is her number if she is still in town 770-845-5864.

Jaco, the reason I didn't go to just any local seamstress is that this is NOT a costume, tux or prom dress. It's not about the aestethetics, but about saving your hide in a crash. I've no doubt your mom or any qualified seamstress can do the work so it looks good, but I'd be very worried that the seams would not hold up in a crash. Everything would have to be double-stitched using special thread. If you're going to have your mom do it at least make sure she reads up on what it takes to make SAFE leather repairs.

Oh no i agree with you a 100%.. i was just throwing out a possible local option.. if she thinks she can do it.. if she ash any doubt about her work then she will not do it just for the fact that a persons life is at stake... and when i called her yesterday about it.. she told me she is going to check up on what to need online.. and possibly go to the library today to see if they have books on that.. thanks for the reply on that.. and again i agree with you.. i wouldnt want just any john or jane to fix my stuff..

hope you get it fixed before your next track day.. Take care

I drive by Ann's house every day during the week. She got flooded from the rain last year. The house is up for sale, and I don't think they are there anymore. I sent mine to Barnacle Bill in Kentucky.

Ann F. Turner is still in Austell, mostly. And still at the house-with-the-orange-mailbox. Same phone numbers: 770-941-1142 or (leash) 770-845-5864. Rebuilt the house, and machines are working as well as before. And Racers still have priority over "street people" . No, I do not, repeat NOT do prom finery or stuff that looks like that. Much prefer the practical bikers. Very familiar with WERA rules ( hate 'em, but they are for your safety, and I understand that.). Just ask, though, please remove the internal armor before you leave the suit with me.

How much do you charge for suit cleaning and repair of 2 busted seams 4 fingerbreadths wide.

Laz, I do not clean the leathers. You can do it with a dampened sponge and Oil Soap on it, or use regular leather cleaner. Call around to the drycleaners in your area, and ask to whom they send their leather garments to be cleaned. If you get the same name more than once, call that place directly and ask them. The middlemen usually do inflate the direct price considerably. As for repairing the busted seams, the restitching is the easy part. Getting to them takes time. So, when you bring the suit to me, armor out, and we look at it together, I will be able to give you an idea of price. Basic price, per hour, is $ 30. If your repair involves removing the stitching at the wrist then only turning the sleeve inside-out -- and there is no armor glued to the leather --, it should be only the basic charge. If the split is at the waist and involves top and bottom, it will take longer; hence price will be higher. With out seeing your suit, Laz, it is hard to determine. But you won't have anywhere as much spent as you would have for a new garment.

Hope this helped. Ann

Yes; basic charge is 30/hour. for repairing rips. Time needed depends on complexity of the rip, and its placement. (read: get-to-it-ness). Cleaning? No; call the drycleaners in your area, and ask who does their cleaning. If you get the same name a number of times, call that place directly. Or put some oilsoap on a dampened sponge and do it yourself. Or use leather cleaner sold for "street" garments.

I sit in the shower in my gear and clean it every year. I first wet the leather suit in the shower being in it then get sattle soap and clean the dirty areas. After that I dry it off with a towel and it's done .

Laz,

I know a few riders that clean there gear that way and someone mentioned that on a topic a wile back. Honestly yea it might sound odd but it works vs going waiting for that dry cleaning place. I edit my post because the dam iphone likes to replace words sometimes so I do as I please and trust me it always works like i mentioned before(LOL). I don't care about being called weird esp from online or here it's great to be different hell we can't always be on the same page. Hell in your case you need to google before asking repeated questions or search before you post(LOL).
