I was reading that. Going to be really curious to see what the outcome is of it and how much truth there is to it.

Way too much stuff in there that makes no sense starting with the "early" shipping. Some people got theirs one day early - that's it, one. 24 hours would have made zero difference in their testing if it exists.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Apple did something like this. Itunes and Apple's control-over-your-property policies are why I don't own (and never will own) an ipod, iphone, or mac.
I guess we will find out in a few weeks whether its true or not

Yeah, how dare companies put protection on their products so you can't steal them. The bastards!

What controls are you worried about then? I can transfer anything bought in iTunes to a lot of other places with no issues. Unless you're planning on giving it away in violation of the the law then you can use the stuff you bought easily.

Bought, being the operative word.
Unlike you, I don't consider the transaction for movies, music, or device I pay money for to be a temporary 'licensing fee'.
Nor do I think that my phone service provider or phone manufacturer should have any say in how I decide to use the device I have bought from them.
If I want to
- Run my own code on my phone
- Transfer my recorded TV shows or DVDs to my phone
- Play my music on this device or other devices
- Take my phone onto another network
- Use my phone as a modem
- Use the phone as a doorstop and fashionable paperweight
...then these are all uses that I am entitled to. Apple & AT&T go out of its way to make such non-revenue generating activities more difficult, or impossible.
Don't even get me started on the non-removable battery and non-industry standard connectors.
There are your controls.

Odd, I can do everything on my phone that you're saying you can't. And mine was made by that evil company. Every single phone out there is built for a specific network, t-mobile phones only work on t-mobile, same for sprint and verizon unless you get them unlocked. They also all have different connections for the most part, just go look at any store selling cell phone chargers.
Non removable batter is control? You have some serious issues since that is the one thing that is different about an iphone versus other phones.
As for licensing of software/music - it's always been that way, just because it was easier to break the law doesn't change the law.

The biggest issue to me is locking the phone. Once you purchase a phone you should be free to move it to another provider, assuming that the technology works with the other providers.

All phones are locked. My Nextel Blackberries would only work on Nextel/Sprint. My Motorolas from Verizon only worked on Verizon. I did get ATT to unlock one of my phones back in the day by saying I was going overseas.

They lock the phones because you are getting them at a subsidized price.... They charge you a lot less for the phone because they're going to make up the difference in your service contract. If they didn't do that you'd be paying 600-800 for an iPhone 4 instead of 200-300...

Exactly. It's all part of the game and all the companies play it.

that and you are going to have a 2 year contract and have to pay $375 to break it. don't see being unlocked as an issue unless maybe you want to get a pre paid sim when over seas or something
