ok, after some serious nagging at home, i am going to purchase a mac desktop sometime soon. i am a computer idiot. so i will need someone to come (alpharetta) and set it up and move (what can be moved) from the pc to the mac. and show the wife the basics. i will be happy to pay a flat fee or an hourly fee. give me a quote if you are interested.

also, do i need to buy the apple care crap? anything else i really need to buy at the same time? can i use my current pc printer with the mac?

thanks.

Dean, I can take care of it for you. Have you bought the computer yet? If not, call me first and I'll go over them with you. Also, yes, get Apple Care. Well worth the money.

Either shoot me a message or give me a call and I can coordinate with you.

Oh, and wasn't there some sarcasm out of you regarding Apple recently? :D

Pics and Music should be a no-brainer.. Tax files depends on what type of files. Also, since I dont own a Mac, what filesystems can they read USB drives with? Will they support reading NTFS? If not, you might want to make sure you format the USB drive correctly before getting there.

MAcs will def read NTFS, and I BELIEVE now with Snow Leopard can write to it as well, but don't hold me to that...

As far as "how do I do this on the mac" - check out this: http://www.apple.com/mac/ Go about 1/2 way down the page. There's a number of videos you can watch that show you various things like the mail client, iLife, the basics of the OS, etc.

There's also this: http://www.apple.com/support/mac101/

And as always, if you have questions, feel free to post them here. I'll help if I can.

I will say, your first week or two will be somewhat frustrating because EVERYTHING is done differently, and thus you'll be annoyed because you're so used to doing things the Windows way. After about the first week, you'll start figuring things out and start thinking "Hmm, ok, I can see where this could be better" and after the 2nd week you'll pretty much be in love and wonder why the hell you ever used Windows.

Proph, that sounds perfect. I was going to recommend he do something like that for keeping specialized Windows programs. That would be great.

dude, the home movies of your mom at the donkey show are too classic not to transfer to the mac.

Done and done. Got everything including the iTunes libraries switched over so should be great. Showed Megan and Dean the basics of using it and left Megan my e-mail and phone. That screen is absolutely beautiful! Very well made machine.

Pleasure was all mine, Dean. I needed the practice to start getting back up to speed again. Great setup and will be happy to help Megan if anything comes up. Soon as we're sure about the files, we'll wipe the PC so you can get rid of it.
