View Full Version : 129 today, July 4
Dunno if the group of bikes i led down the loop today was anyone here, but sorry if i hurt your feelings.
As some of you guys know, i hit a deer last week with my truck, so its in the shop being repaired. Well, i got a rental, 2010 Chevy HHR. I guess this is supposed to be Chevy's version of the mini cooper.
All i can say is the damn thing corners like its on friggin rails. I left Friday afternoon for Murphy/Andrews, N.C. to be with the family at my bro in law's lake house on Lake Nantahala. Exited GA 129 off 985 and took that all the way up. I forgot just how damn much fun "the loop" is. On the way up i got behind a game warden and a Honda S2000 (or whatever model it is). Since i wasnt sure just how well the little HHR was gonna handle the mtns curves, i was a bit intimidated on just how fast i could go. Well, the harder i pushed that little thing, the better it handled. There wasnt a corner up there that this thing didnt just BEG to go faster thru. And the warden and the Honda were absolutely FLYING! I could tell the DNR guy is used to driving those roads on a regular basis, cus me and the Honda both were driving pretty damn hard just to keep up with him.
Then, on the way home today, i see there are TONS of sportbikes up there. Had a group of about 6 jump in behind me at the Rock Store, and off we went. I honestly just wanted to stay out of their way, but was gonna have my fun too. Each time i looked back, they were dragging their knees thru the corners, but i was pulling away from them, had to let off the gas to let'em catch up. When we got to the bottom, they pulled into that little store and im assuming turned around and headed back up as i continued my homeward journey.
I was SOOOoooo tempted to turn around with them and make the run back up, but figured hell, i'd just come down the mtn. faster than i had ever thought i would this weekend, and didnt see one cop. Would have been my luck to go back up and do it again, i'd have had my ass busted, so i just headed home.
It's been quite a few years since i rode that section of 129, and all i can say is im STILL grinning from ear to ear. I forgot just how damn much fun that road is.

Let me know if you need a recommendation on a good orthopedic doctor. You may have hurt your shoulder while patting yourself on the back.

Hopefully he used his other arm to pat himself on the back with. It's good to exercise both.
Hmm, where is the soap box gang?
Clunk, your a idiot for endangering countless lives and the road isn't a race track.
I could go on blah blah blah.
Just wanted to be the first to jump on the hypocritical soapbox.
Bout time Ted Clunk used his nutz and manned up for once...
endangering countless lives and the road isn't a race track.
i just knew you would open your pie hole on this one.
Endangering lives, its not a race track? Dude, you endangered lives ON the race track, so youve got ZERO room to talk. :D

Yea everytime I see a Colorado I think dam I wouldn't spend 20k on that period with a smaller 5 banger (hummer engine) and they dropped a v6 used on the s10 No thanks. I like chevy full sized suv's Tahoe and Sub and my friends new Camero but that's very likely the only thing I would consire on the Chevy lineup. Chevy car's sucks and your right the Cobalt is a cheap peice of crap (sorry to those who own one)

cops were bad saturday up there....they were sitting in the corners even which i am not used to seeing.
im with john on the hhr being a piece of garbage. It may handle well, but theres no long term in one of those things. Its just like the pt cruiser.

I'm sure it handles well compared to the truck Todd is used too though. There are way better handling cars on the market, many priced near HHR level. I work in service at a used car lot. PT Cruisers, Cobalts/HHR's and unfortunately many MOPAR products are on my do not buy list. 40,000 miles and serious problems.

Well hello kettle...
Hopefully someday your country ass can enjoy enjoy some real engineering and stop worshiping a piece of shit HHR.
Glad to know your still a turd!

i came through there back from the dragon around 9 at night.. talk about an amazing ride.. no traffic..no cops.. just awesome..even pulled over for a nice piss half way down.. lol

worshiping a POS HHR? Never said it was a great car, but yes, it does handle GREAT. Ive been driving cars long enuff to know what a good handling car is and what isnt. Would i buy the car? Nope, but its not all that bad, i have no clue what the price tag is. This one is a rental, has 40K on the clock, and is actually in really good shape. Is it fast? ummmm.........no, its a 4 cyl., automatic. I didnt expect it to be fast, but, i am clocking 25mpg around town, and just got 30 on the interstate going to and from N.C.
As for the kettle comment...........thats another funny one. ive yet to involve anyone in any of my crashes, damn sure wasnt stupid enuff to come flying into the pits on a wet track, grab a handful of brakes and have my bike fly thru at least 3 pits having everyone scatter to keep from getting run over.
And youre still one of the biggest asshats ive ever met, Hank. :D

the Z06 up there is even more insane. i thought bikes did well in the mtns until i took my 1st fast car up there. hilarity ensued.
Oh Clunk, your stories get more exaggerated as the years go by.
I seem to remember a Barber incident from which you had involved quite a few people. Didn't you blame the bike or something? Even though others had ridden it successfully the past few hours?
HHR handling great?
Oh man, are you getting Bob syndrome?
They stick you with the cheapest most POS rental car you can get and it handles great? Bwahahahaha
Turd!

He drives a Duramax daily if my memory serves. Relative to that surely the HHR does handle great. I have a Z71 1/2 ton crew cab for my dd. I occasionally drive our company's HHR and it does handle great compared to my truck.

I think this thread, a thread in a motorcycle forum, can be summed up like this: It's a car!
You can also get a thrilling ride in a safe, climate controlled enviroment by going to an IMAX.

I've got a 2008 VW R32 which is a really great handling car. Rode 180 one day and caught some sportbikes who thought they were fast. They pulled over at the end looking completely dumbfounded.

Yes I pulled that maneuver once in an STi and the bikers were scratching their heads. With open sections, yes a bike has an advantage but on a tight road, or one with a lot of heavy braking zones or off camber corners and a car is the clear winner.

so tell me, what incident at Barber are you referring to? you love to make shit up. I'd say YOU have the Harrington syndrome.
The only incident ive EVER had at Barber was when i highsided the endurance bike in T2. Again, no other bikes involved, and no, no one had been riding the bike prior to me riding it that day. Dude, you REALLY need to get your stories straight. Youve told so many lies and half truths, you wouldnt know the truth if it hit you in the face.

tail of the dragon was big fun yesterday, but my tires heated up too fast and the oversteer got pretty bad, there was one TN cop babysitting, and lots of cruiser's going slow and crashing

The Chevy HHR? Any time Hertz sticks me with one of those, it's like the worst kind of punishment. They seem like a total piece of junk to me. Then again, i never got to thrash it on the mountain roads. Then I expect ANY rental would be fun.

I'd love to take an M3 convertible up there and play on the dragon with the roads closed...
How you liking the 135? I looked at them but couldn't convince myself to get one over the 3 series.

That's right, you highsided an endurance bike. You probably don't remember how many bikes you effected during your flight. I'll give you a hint, it was more than one your HHR lovin turd!
And I don't lie. Pride myself on that fact...

How is highsiding a race bike during a race worse than shooting a bike through the pits?
still an idiot, you must pride yourself on THAT fact.
And no, not ONE bike was effected by my highside you moron. Jesus, Hank, you didnt know shit about racing when you were ATTEMPTING to do it, and i see you STILL dont. Get a life............TURD.

Jack-off home boy in on the jock strap riding!
Yep, crashed in the pits. Only thing that broke was someones extra visor. When will the soapbox, jackstrap ball sniffing crowed get some new material?
Ted Clunk has claimed that he has never endangered anyone on the track. Which is not accurate.
