PLEASE BE AWARE -- There is a very large swath of sand on the road just north of Desoto Falls on the Lumpkin County side of 129. It covers all lanes and was put down yesterday evening. My guess is that there was a diesel spill. You'll be on it before you know it headed north or south, so please watch for it and keep your speed down in that area.

Yep, I rode over just after they put it down yesterday. Be careful folks, its JUST after a huge blind curve coming down the mountain and you can't see it.

I think I saw you coming down. I was headed up in my CR-V while the bulldozer was still laying it on and had to go off-road to get around. Glad you made it over.

Why don't they have signs? Seems like a big hazard and major safety issue.

This just reeks of lawsuit if someone goes down.

That's what I was thinking for those in cars as well.

Signs in Georgia LOL that's a good one hell i guess if Georgia Dot doesn't have them on the main road's they don't care. Seriously I don't think this state cares about Personal safety sometimes and it's well noted on record there have been plenty of road accidents because of there neglect .I've ran into some road construction that clearly didn't have any warning and thought WTF I guess we just run into it. I guess if Logic was applied here we wouldn't have post like this but glad we all received warning about it before the unexpected happens.

I was really tired coming home last night, but it looks like the sand is gone and in its place is a giant splat of highway yellow paint. I don't believe I hallucinated this, so keep in mind how slippery that is going to be when it rains. Someone please verify if you're up today or tomorrow.

There was a giant spot of yellow paint just before a left hand turn going up 129 today (Saturday). I do think it could be VERY slick in the rain. Not good.

The "Sand" was there to soak up Four 50 gal drums of highway marker YELLOW paint {that is 200 gallons} spilled last week off the back of a truck.

Sunday , there were large yellow warning signs in both directions, "slippery when wet".

Running up Hwy 129 yesterday in the bright sunlight, seeing that HUGE section of roadway completely covered in DRIED yellow paint, was quite a sight.
