Im getting warmers for tally on the 16th and was wondering, for all who have been there before, do they supply electricity at the track? I was on their website and it said that they offer it for $10/day but what I wanted to know was were there designated stations that you have to go to to plug in or is it a portable device that you rent? If anyone has the answer I would greatly appreciate it.
designated outlets. Just bring GOOD extension cords (not the little pissy orange 14awg things).

Sent you a PM...WERA board...weinerk sold me the plastics, tank, extra windscreen, and DZUS fasteners for $450 shipped. I got a fuel pump off a crashed gixxer off ebay for $35 so when I swap the tanks from track to street I didnt have to fool around with the pump every time.

Pete wheres that thread that talks about the tire requirements for tech?
what kind of requirements are you asking about, Laz? Tires should be in "good" condition with at least 75% treadlife left on them. Thats pretty much the only condition for tires.

I'm still waiting on my stabilizer but I can ride without one. It seems the 01 is allot less twitchy than an 05.

Question: Do I really need to bring my pit bike (scooter) for Tally?
I haven't been there since they reconfigured the place so just wondering if everything is an easy walk or if riding is easier/quicker.
If everyone can talk Squire into trading bikes I might make it.

Depends on what your plans are. If your staying/camping in the pits, you'll probably want to bring it, it's a bit of a walk to the new showers in the tower. I just bum Todd's golf cart.....:D

Anyway, Had a great time on Sat (until I crashed outside the bowl). Wanted to say sorry for the red flag, novice group.
And sorry for holding up the Inter. class. I also wanted to give a BIG thank you to the FBF crew and the paramedics for getting to me very quick. Everyone did a excellent job making sure I was ok.

Glad you were okay. No worries on the flag...safety first. I went by just as you were getting up I believe and I know that isn't a good place to go off with the drop off. I was looking your bike over when you were being attended to and it didn't look too bad at all other than the left clip on and slider.
My brother went off 3 sessions in a row (twice with me right behind him watching) right were Laz wrecked. His brake lever was going the the grip (no brakes basically) due to fluid boil/moisture most likely. He would just right straight off before the chicane into the grass and rear brake it to stop, get back on the track. He was the one flying in Novice on the ZRX....he knows that bike like nobody's business. Nut!

I didn't ride the last session, I asked myself if I wanted to and that told me my answer. The last one I rode I had to angle my body to bend my right knee enough to put it on the peg. I noticed at Flygirls that it was swelling while Chris and I was dropping her bike off and his.
So, I got back home and took a much needed shower. I then started icing my bad knee. The swelling stopped but it's not going down - BTW: It is NOT motorcycle related, just an old work injury.
The CR kept saying "get off the bike" and I kept telling the control rider it wasn't going to happen.
Thanks Chris for the companionship there and back. It was a pleasure sharing a pit with you and your family.
Thanks Flygirl for the dinner and gas:)
It was a pleasure meeting the rest of ya'll. I just wish I spent more time talking with each of you. Next time for sure!
Good news that Johnathan and Laz are relatively unhurt. Gamecock - that is one bad ass ZRX, it made me wish I brought my Bandit 1250. But the maiden voyage of my 01 GSX-R600 went PERFECT! I took baby steps and just wanted to learn how to ride one of those blasted "rice rockets"...LOL
And I finally met Ed Bargy, at first I was too shy to say anything - he is THE MAN (or at least one of the few) to me. If Keith Cody would have been there or Kenny I probably would have gotten a woody.
Thanks for the tow Todd, I know I was playing with the line too much.
Enough and even too much for now - see ya'll later with some pictures.
Thanks Pete.

Thanks again for a great event Pete. It was good to meet you and the mock race was pretty fun yesterday with the instructors, despite getting run off the track coming out of T3. You will definitely see me as well as my buddy on the bondo ZX6 at more of your events. Small groups and no one trying to ride over their head led to a lot of track time. Perfect day yesterday, great meeting you all. I had a blast. I am glad I did not go for the second day though, my legs are toast lol. No easy feat hauling that big TL around the track!
You're my muse Rachel! I'm glad I got to finally meet you. You and Phillip was doing that damn thang! And I love how you were whipping that TL around in the paddock like it was nothing! I needed the guys to help me put my bike my rear stand when here you were making it look so effortless like it was a toy bike! Not only that but you tweaked your suspension right there on the spot after session 1!
I hope I didn't get in your way on Saturday. I did my best without riding beyond my abilities. Can't wait til next time!

I am all over the 13x forums looking for a smaller track bike...I have had two R6's in my posssion in the last few years and sold them, I was kicking myself in the butt all day Sat lol.
You were not in the way at all, I only came up behind you one time; and you were doing fine when I saw you. Go to my facebook page and look at my "pics of me" .....that stiff looking wood person on the bike numberd 515?.... yeah thats me at my first track day. She was hitting the same ref. point, same turn in, same line, EVERY CORNER of EVERY LAP. Not the fastest on the track, but thats not what we teach. She did exactly everything correctly, and is a much better rider as a result. Consistency and smoothness is what she had, and the byproduct of that will be the speed.

was a fantastic weekend. Thanks to all you guys that came out and made it a success. We plan on doing several more of these at this price point next year as well. I just walked in the house, and having put close to 300 miles on the bike this weekend, im absolutely exhausted, time for bed. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Todd, my brother and I had a great time. I thought you were gonna read my brother the riot act (the ZRX in Novice), but he and I were pleasantly surprised at the advice you had for him. This is the second trackday for me with Bargy (first X-Act) and the third for my brother. We always have a great time and things run smooth as can be! I think next time we'll give a shot at Intermediate. I had a good time follow you and the other control riders in Novice and see all the different lines. The biggest thing I saw is how much later you guys brake into the turns.....everything else I was pretty decent on. Being that I've only been on our bike for two trackdays I just don't ride it enough to have the familiarity and comfort to really stuff it in the corners....yet! :D
Had a blast, looking forward to Spring!

So you knew you were gonna crash because you couldn't negotiate the traffic on the track. Thanks for the compliments Joe and thanks to Todd who let me move up to I on Sunday. I feel that it really pushed me to look at my riding habits and reflect how to move to the next level.
Some of my take aways and questions for those whom have much more experience than me -
Todd told me that I needed to increase my speed on the straights and actually use my front break instead of engine breaking way before the curves. I took this to heart and really tried to put this into practice on Sunday. What do you know, my track times decreased by about 10 secs on average to 1:16 - 1:19. Funny how ever since I started riding my full attention to getting better was increasing corner speed, I kinda forgot about giving the bike gas on the straights.
Here is a question about a feeling I sometimes have in a corner. What does it mean when you are in a corner and for a brief moment you bike feels like it is increasing lean angle (or falling) when what I needed was to maintain lean angle? Am I not giving it enough "maintaince" throttle? This doesn't happen every time, most of the time my bike feels solid in the corners. I know its something im doing, maybe I'm putting pressure on the bars? Bad input of some kind?
Anyway, every track day I feel brings me to the next level, thanks all that spent the weekend with me!
Oh and for those that didn't hear me squeal that I put a knee down for the first time in a corner, well there you go. ;)

I too ran up on a lot of traffic going into turns, but what you have to learn (especially in Novice) is patience. Being in Novice you have to go out with the mindset that the other riders (most of them) are gonna fly down the straights and then park it in the corners........kind of like cruiser riders on the Dragon (LOL). While Intermediate may have the greatest variety of skill, I think Novice might be just the same. You have so many true Newbies and then folks that are fast but not sure if they want to push the pace like in Intermediate. I like the "big fish, little pond" approach better for me. I had SO many times I could have passed in the curves, and could have easily and safe, but I didn't really want to have to talk with Todd or the other riders about my behavior. Being in Novice that is what you have to expect. Next time I'll probably move up, but being it was 16 months since my last trackday I just wanted to focus on being smooth and having things come back to me.
I actually almost ran up on Todd going into the Chicane braking really hard.......that would have been BAD!

It "could" be the profile of the tires, especially as they wear more on the sides as the day goes on. They get to be a bit high in the middle, or pointy, so when you lay it over it really can give you that falling feeling. All the turns are different so my feeling on increasing lean angle seemed to be a little different in each spot. In the bowl I really felt like I was on rails and getting pushed down on the bike as the suspension compressed...I really loved that turn. The Chicane was the tricky one for me, that and the right handed 180 on the infield. On the Chicane sometimes I could get almost a straight line through it, others I was sliding the rear on the line or rumble strips.
If, or you, really wanted to get faster and learn to be more technical in the riding I'd go to some schools. But me, I just enjoy learning it on my own (with what I read, know, learn from others) and use my natural ability and feel.
BiggsRR07

Sounds like your losing speed in the corner causing the bike to lean more or you could be counter steering more (pushing on the inside handle bar). As far as braking goes, I was the same way when I started out. I did more engine braking coming into corners which causes you to slow down way early. Take a look at the cones set up the the beginning of the turn and use one as a braking point to start applying the brakes. I'm pretty much at WOT until I hit one of the braking points. Once you get more comfortable you'll be able to advance your braking point later and later. You'll know your braking hard enough once your back wheel starts to lift up a bit. At first you probably won't think you'll be able to stop in time but eventually you'll get more comfortable and it will also help your corner entry speed and maintenance of corner speed.

Once you get all your braking and downshifting done and you "turn in", you need to maintain "neutral throttle" to the apex then you will smoothly accelerate as you exit the turn.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Neutral throttle is maintaining your current speed, not letting the RPM's decrease or increase, cracking the throttle and maintaining your corner speed will keep the bike at the lean angle you are at. As you start picking the bike back up after the apex you can increase your throttle/acceleration smoothly as you exit the turn.
<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Hope that helps?<O:p</O:p

Get a good drive exiting the turn and pass them on the straight.

Slow down a little before the turn to put a little gap in between you and the rider you're following. This will allow you to carry more corner speed and get a better drive out of the corner which should allow you to pass them. Tally is such a tight course, it's not as easy to pass there as some other tracks with wider track surfaces and longer straights.
Don't be so concerned about what sticker you have on the front of your bike either. Spend a few more days or whatever in Novice to work on fundamentals including safe passes before you move up and then get the go ahead from a CR before doing so.
More importantly, if you're riding in a manner on the track and feel it's going to cause a crash, STOP doing it. You could have/can get seriously injured or worse as well as take another rider out with you. Everyone payed the same amount of money and are entitled to be on the track just the same as you. Please, keep that in mind the next time you go out.
On a side note, my org. allows passing in the outside of corners in the novice group. Disclaimer-Ride with whatever org. you want, I'm just giving you info. and not trying to solicit you away from any org.

Yea I know, I need more experience. Dont get me wrong, I wasnt riding like an a hole to my limits and knew I was gonna crash. I knew I was gonna crash before the first lap because something always happens to me. I'm the guy that gets hurt playing football. I dont think that what I did was unsafe in any manner. I passed the guy I broke but I had too much speed for how I was taking the corner. I had the bike leaned all the over when I should have had it more upright. I think I ran out of contact patch but I could be wrong.

Laz, you did fine out there, your only human and we make mistakes.....fortunately you didn't get hurt bad nor did anyone else.
I was towing a buddy around in novice on a 675, instead of getting him jammed up or making him pass others in tight situations, I pulled off into hot pits with him, asked Chuck to get us a big gap and went back out on track.
Everytime you go out to the track, you'll always learn something new. This being your first time, well, you've got plenty to learn/look forward too!

Laz you need to take a school period. It is that black and white cause the mistakes you are making are the very ones everyone did until they had someone help them build their trackday foundation. This was an open trackday setting just instead of TALLY putting it on it was under Xact so this is kinda what it is like if you rolled to Jennings on an open day with friends.
Intermediate will ALWAYS have the crazy different closing speeds cause thats the Ricky Racer class. Every mountain hotshot signs up for intermediate and then you have those who are finally solid enough to run in "I" trying it out and then those who want to cherry pick and not play with the big boys/girls in Advance. It's just the way of the trackday world and it will always be like this. You just need to make sure you are consistant, safe, and actually know what you are doing.

Laz, a lot of good advice here in this thread, so here's mine. based on your own comments, i really feel you need to slow down, MENTALLY! this was your first track day, yet instead of concentrating on fundamentals, and getting used to the environment, track pace, etc, you seem to be placing emphasis on speed and "i wanna pass in the turns!" this type of thinking will not end well for you. focus on taking simple, small steps to become a better rider, and speed will come without you even thinking about it. going "fast" is a byproduct of solid fundamentals, not simply twisting the throttle. i think it would serve you well to re-evaluate this last track day, and the approach you took going in, then shift the focus next time and concentrate on basic skill development, a calm, directed mental frame of mind, and leave the "counting how many passes i made" calculator at home.

How do I set a slower rider up for a pass? I want to ride in I so I can pass in the turns.
Work on "you" more before worrying about getting past others. Handling traffic and slower riders will make you a better, calmer, more controlled rider for future progress. You will get hurt in Int group if you jump there too fast. By far the most dangerous group, especially for a newbie. Try a no brake drill or keep it in a single gear so that you concentrate on other things. You will go faster with brakes if you practice riding without using them and understand entry speed and setting up corners better.
Also, I haven't been to tally that I haven't ran off the chicane atleast once a day. Done it in several races too and never lost a spot! If you are going off roading, try and get it upright before the mud, stay off the front brake, apply the rear brake and slow before turning!
Now.... you've gotten a lot of great advice and some of it might seem to be beating up on you a bit but I'm sure it's not intended that way. Folks just wanna see other folks do well, have fun, improve, while being safe to themselves and others around them. You can choose to listen and ultimately improve quicker and have fun doing it or be bull headed, let it in one ear and out the other cause you know everything already and likely waste more time playing in the dirt. you now know reading is not doing so being a forum expert racer does not translate into knowing squat on the track... Good luck and hope to see you out there sometime!
And the keith code school levels 1 & 2 are awesome...money well spent!

Is Dave the one Todd called a fast redneck? If so that guy is cool. Not that everyone wasn't, just saying.Thats him, Laz. He "let" me lead the mock race at the end of the day on Sunday for about a lap and a half, then he proceeded to "own" my ass.
David is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Ive known him since his very first trackday at Tally, back when he was slow as hell. I'd "like" to say i taught him everything he knows, but watching that boy ride, he obviously gets around the track a whole heap better than i do.

Nikk, that was me all day on Sat!!! I was in 3rd or 4th and left it there so I could concentrate on my lines and not get creamed by folks that had WAY more experience than I did. I did use brakes but mostly engine braking until Sunday.
I mostly got passed on the inside in the chicane. The 1st session it scared the bejeesus outta me but I quickly got used to it. Especially considering I was slow! LOL. But I also could give a rats ass who passed me or how slow I was because even though I had race plastics, it wasn't my goal to muck 'em up (or myself for that matter)!
Sunday I almost ran off in the chicane because I started smelling myself...LOL

That's awesome.... my first trackday, I got passed by a guy going into the bowl on his knee... Turned out to be a 64 year old man...all my instructors that day were over 50 years old... but hey, they were rolling! That same guy now, I'm 30-40 seconds faster per lap at road atlanta! Big thing is leaving the ego at home when you go to the track. If you do and increase your speed at YOUR own pace, you will do it quicker, with better habits, and in a safer manner. Patience is something that pays dividends on the track. Had I practiced a bit more patience at the GNF's I might not have gotten ran off track and now be dealing with physical therapy and possible surgery on my neck.
Try the no brake drill next time out at the track. Maybe the first or second session when everyone is a bit slower anyways. You will end up going through turns faster yet feeling more comfortable doing it because you aren't coming up to the turn on the brakes and nervous about going in too hot. I've done it several times and been passed coming up to a turn only to pass the guy in the turn because he broke too much and parked it mid-turn. It just really helps to work on the mental aspect of things which is where everything really resides. Get a mental comfort at the track and everything else falls in place usually. If you are nervous, erratic, anxious, and/or feeling on the edge or easily spooked by other bikes, you won't end up well....

Thanks Pete for putting on a smooth and safe event! It was my first track day and I felt comfortable really quick, especially since everyone was taking it easy at first due to the cooler temps, but also due to the cool folks running the show. Didn't see anything overly stupid out there. Todd, you were right on the money about doing both days. I was able to spend Saturday learning the track and had a lot of fun wicking up the pace on Sunday with new tires and a smaller field! Oh, I was on GSB before the crash as WarRider (yellow/black GSX-R750) and it was good to see some familiar faces! Here's a video from Sunday (I group).
