and not in a good way...
It's amazing because this woman holds a position higher than a fry cook at Dennys.

She is definitely a treasure to those who vote for her and continue to put her in office. She is indicative of that which votes for her. The scary thing is that voters like her and politicos like her are like a virus and continue to proliferate the body politik.:pullhair:

Hammer, if you were a politician you'd be apologizing to Denny's fry cooks.

I always preferred Sambo's myself.

Now, now I will have to refer you to Mr. Jealous of the NAACP. You are trying to roll back the progress we have made in these last 40 or so years.:violin:

Kind of like Hank Johnson with Guam. You have to listen to the underlying message.

She calls the Vietnam conflict a victory, meaning that the side that should have won did.

Or she thinks we won and saved South Vietnam from North Vietnam and it's now organized like the Korea's. Either way she seems to have no grasp of that area of the world.

She doesn't have a grasp on the area of Mars where the flag was planted either.

Holy shit that brings back memories.

Same here. Going way off topic, many years ago I was the night shift computer operator at a bank. Many nights I would start this job that needed no input from me for like an hour. Instead of staring at the four walls I would jump in the car and go down to Sambo's and eat a late night breakfast. Then I'd get back to the computer room and finish the night's work. Good times.

north and south korea are definitely not organized, they still point guns at each other on the dmz

the south koreans just added a really neat robot to the dmz arsenal

I never ate there but I remember seeing the signs along the freeway as a kid. I haven't thought of that restaurant in years.

Can one of you put aside the smart remarks and try to explain what you find so objectionable about her comments.

I'm not certain what she means about not declaring victory (we couldn't, since we fled from South Viet Nam with our tails between our legs) but I think the point of her comments is that we should stop sending our children to die in a foreign country fighting in a civil war that isn't really any of our business. I agree with her.

By the way, I will be in Saigon in a couple of months to commission a system sold to an American company which operates plants throughout southeast Asia. It will be interesting to see how the people in Viet Nam treat me, as an American. People continue to die all the time in Viet Nam, north and south, from US land mines and unexploded ordinance left behind.

it's pretty obvious she was trying to talk about korea, not vietnam, and even at that, what she said is patently wrong/false/incorrect

and she's on the council of foreign affairs, that's just friggin scary, I mean the vietnam vs korea may have just been her nerves going out, and she misspoke, but to think that north/south korea get along, that's just incredibly uneducated

wallypiper
07-21-2010, 06:59 AM
Why do you think she's trying to talk about Korea? The number of dead she gives is a Viet Nam statistic, not Korea. Perhaps the "declare victory" comment is a reference to the idea that we could have, at some point, said "we win" and left, stopping the killing.

MrBlah

because she said there's a north and south, no matter what, if she really ment vietnam she was totally wrong, if she meant korea she was totally wrong, so pick one I guess, it does not matter she's pretty dumb

There is a north and a south in Viet Nam too. They are not separate any more but so what. Her comments still made sense. She wasn't talking about Korea.

Google it Wally. A few years ago she asked if the Mars Pathfinder had taken pictures of the American flag we planted there (confusing Mars with the moon).

I don't really dispute the fact that she is pretty ignorant. But the video posted was clearly about Viet Nam, not Korea. And I believe the reality in Viet Nam is that the south and north, while technically "unified" are still pretty different places. Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is pretty westernized despite communist rule. When I was in Cambodia for a commissioning job, Ho Chi Minh City was the source for most goods and materials needed on the job site. The DMZ is gone but the division is still there.

She said we should declare victory like we failed to do in Vietnam (or Korea if you want to argue that she was referring to it) which in neither case did we win. Vietnam we patently lost and Korea we left with a war that was and still is a stalemate. That would be the first thing wrong. If she was actually referring to Vietnam then she's dumb for stating it currently has a DMZ but if she was referring to Korea then she was dumb for stating the casualty figures from Vietnam. Neither the Iraq nor Afghanistan conflicts were entered because of civil war unlike both Vietnam and Korea. They were invasions into sovereign nations by our military and the only thing that could be considered a "civil war" about either would be that there are multiple factions in both countries and we oppose some of the factions more than others and unlike the other two conflicts mentioned which were civil wars in progress before we decided to join one side's fight.
