This thing just doesn't seem safe.

It does seem insane to trust that. I took my ninja to Ft Lauderdale 2 years ago with one of the bike haulers that just hooks to the trailer hitch on the bike. I worried the whole way there that it was going to break and tumble down the road.
I suppose as long as the handlebars are secured its as safe as everything else. Of course its going to eat up that rear tire traveling down the highway the same as riding it.

Yeah, that's got the potential to end REALLY badly.

The way I look at it is if I'm gonna wear my rear tire out I might as well ride the bike.
look at it like this. by the time you get to FLA using that trailer, peeps will think you wheelied in all the way from ATL based on tire wear!

I agree it doesn't look safe and dang SS tires don't last forever.

There are bikes that have pressurized oil lassages in the transmission. That means you're spinning transmission twirly bits (British technical term, I think) at high speed without adequate lubrication. The only way I'd chance it is by removing the chain. Then you still have screwy tire wear with a nice flat spot down the center.

I would think one of the perpendicular hitch carriers would be better than this.. dunno if they come in Cruiser-size tho.. only seen the dirtbike ones.

These have been around for years...
Dad had one for towing dirtbikes back in the `70's. Said he kept a spare wheel w/ a street tire on it and would swap when he got to the track.

Wheel bearings, tires, chain, sprockets, countershaft and tranny parts - all that stuff getting worn as though you were riding it. I can see using it to get a bike that won't run to the shop but that's it. I wouldn't use it for long hauls.

+1
If doing it for long distance, throw on an old rim and tire, leaving the chain unattached.
