I have a 48 Inch solid drive shaft (STAINLESS STEEL) that has a tweek in it.. I actually have 2 of them and before I buy a 3rd I am just seeing if this thing can be tweeked back to spec.. Its something that really cant be done Good ole Boy Style with just a bend.. I think since both ends are threaded it would need a Big Arse Lathe of some type to check the specs ect.. It cant be more than .002 off per Mastercraft..

Make a long story short the wife hit a Log on the Lake Friday Evening and Im Pissed!!!

New Prop on the way but Its not turning free as usual so the shaft in there is bent.. The one in the Pic Below is from 15 Years ago... I guess I am lucky with 800+ Hours and no accidents with debris...1232

if the machine shop has the capability to straighten a crankshaft then they will have the fixture to 'tweek' that back into spec.

We replaced the prop, strut for the shaft and the shaft after my buddy ran the boat up on a pile of rocks that was just under the water a couple of years ago. The lake kept dropping and we saw a re-creation of the rock pile up on 60, it was just below the water level when he hit it.

Right now I've got the motor out of our 99 Pro Air on the floor of my garage, gotta go through the whole thing and rebuild, 2 big scores in one of the cylinders, I think we have a broken piston skirt. Crappy time of the year to have these problems, I wouldn't have minded it near as much if it was September. I'm tearing it down and having Slack's machine shop in Gainesville do the machining.

Nice Benchtop tape measure, BTW, I guess I wasn't the only one that bought a few tools from K-Mart!

Yep... I havent even taken the existing shaft out yet but I know its toast... I can barely move the prop with both hands.. And after she did it it was whinnin... I hope the strut is Ok.. No visible knicks on it... Hell... New Prop was $350.. New Shaft will be $380 Packing material ect with time and sweat Im looking at about $900 and thats without the strut... If the strut is out Thats another $300... I am glad we have 50 Plus days out there on it this year anyway... And like I said no damage for about 16 Years.... Cant complain....PM Coming Wheedle...

Call me when she's sitting water level with a tree sticking through the floor. My dad and I sunk a brand new 92 prostar in 4 mile years back by running it up in a tree stump near a bank while pulling a skier.

I've had the same issue you're talking about with the shaft. If it's too far out of wack then you'll need a new one and milling it down wont work b/c the wax/rope bushing the shaft goes through will not have a tight enough seal and it will leak more than it's supposed to.

Good luck man!

You cant mill these.... The bend is on the last 6 inched near the prop....They can only be bent back to spec otherwise the Prop, Strut and Waterjacket/Wax will be off... I have her in my Garage now and after looking at it it looks like the strut is out of place... My plan is to lossen it up.. Put the new prop on and see how she does... I need a deep 9/16 Socket which I dont have... Off to Autozone we go.... I will be meeting Wheedle to drop both of these off if its still making the whining sound.. At that point I will need a new Strut too...

Any idea what the final damage was caused from (and don't even say hitting something).

Hitting something...... By the Boat Ramp... There is no visible damage on the strut other than the bend but the Props Blades are Toast on the Inside of the boat... Kim said when she turned from the dock and circled it hit then stalled... She was freaking out.. Lightning, Monsoon rain ect... I should take the blame... She should have just waited in the truck instead of being helpfull.. She has driven the boat for the 20 years we have had it.. She knows how to drive...

Also John with Inboards there is NO GIVE... Its not like the back of the prop can lift up like a Outboard Engine... They perform great but dont mix well with floating or stationary unerwater objects...LOL You and the Missis need to come up one weekend...We can go hit some shit..LOL

We would love to meet you up there. Between Mason and us, we absolutely love the water. Would have a blast. And if you ever get bored and want a change of pace, you're also welcome to pull down to Oconee. We can use the boat ramp in Mary's parents neighborhood. The lake stays damn near empty compared to Lanier, even on the weekends.

Water or Boaters???

Heh, boaters. The awesome thing about Oconee is since it and Lake Sinclair are power production lakes, they typically stay at the same levels. Even when Lanier was about empty, they stayed near or over full.
