Any of the mechanics got any tips on this? I need to help my brother change a serpentine belt on a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville today with the 3800 V6 motor in it. Is it just a simple releasing tension on the belt tensioner to slide the belt on or something a bit more difficult that I need to be prepared for?

Any bolt sizes you know I'll need or tools that will make this easier would help too since I have to meet him where the car broke down and bring my tools with me.

If anyone has any diagram or instructions that can be sent to me to help that, that will be greatly appreciated.

Well, good news is we successfully borrowed a trailer (thanks Brian) and got the car transferred back home. The belt actually didn't break and just popped off, but something must have caused it to come off. Maybe something is locked up? I didn't spend much time looking as it was so hot outside. I just got the belt all the way off (There is nothing in the way ) and threw the belt in the car. It turns out it may not just be the belt though. The short time we had the car running to get on the trailer, it leaked antifreeze, so maybe the waterpump pulley even locked up or the tensioner pulley? I'm not sure if maybe that is caused because the belt isn't on or not? Either way, it was way better that we grabbed a trailer. I don't think we would have been driving it home had we fixed the belt.

Not to mention, the 10 mins it took us to load the car, we were dripping with sweat. There was no shade and it was hot as hell and I couldn't imagine having to sit there trying to fix it in the sun! It would have been miserable.

Brian has one sweet trailer too and that thing is big. I think it might be about 19ft long? The Bonneville is not a small car at all and there is still a lot of room left up front. I had it balanced on there pretty well without squatting the truck too bad, but keeping enough tongue weight that it didn't sway. The Titan did very well towing it.

Thanks again Brian for hooking us up. Thanks to Davnjai too for meeting us at his shop to pick up the trailer.

I think my brother is jinxed though. In the background is a '93 Bonneville that he was using and got 2 flat tires on it. It was the morning our parent's were leaving to go out of town, so him and my dad just borrowed 2 tires from the Silver Bonneville to go pick it up the car and bring it back to their house and then just decided let him take the Silver one while they were out of town. Then the silver one spits off its serpentine belt. Now he's driving the Titan. Hopefully it will last till tomorrow when they come home and my Dad has to come back to two broken down Bonneville's. LOL
