Anyone know if its illegal to fish under bridges? I remember reading that once but just went over the 2010-2011 regulations and saw nothing about it.

Dont think thats an issue at any fishing lake. Fishing from the bridge is a big no-no, but I have never seen any game wardens or any type of leo issue a ticket for that.

But I have no factual basis for my opinion....Speaking of fishing check out this deal that Bass Assassins has.

Your not going to have any issues with that man. It would take a real jerk to write you up for that if its even a law. At most you would get a warning.

Rolf, you fly fishing for trout or standard fishing? If fly, might have to hook up some time to do some fishing. I've just gotten into fly fishing for trout and love it.

I only started fishing again last year with regular combo (caught one fish!). Got really tired of catching nothing and the fly rod guys just casting and catching. This winter I remembered I have my grandfathers fly rod and hopefully will be picking up a reel of craigslist this week. Getting my waders tomorrow (off CL again). I have been fishing north of Helen on the hooch. I would be down to go elsewhere, especially when the season opens after the 27th. My step sis' neighbor lives up in White county and has been the one showing me the spots.

We need to hook up for some fishing, then. I've got to pick up waders also but have the rest of the outfit. Got a great deal from Cabela's on the reel, rod and equipment and have a friend that should be able to get me 40% off on waders and boots at Bass Pro. After that, will be ready to go. Typically all I do is catch, photograph and release. I don't have the stomach for fish cleaning.
First time out, friend is a guide and teacher took me to north of Dahlonega. Caught four and had one jump the line, all 16" to 20" plus. I never imagined something could be so relaxing but such a rush when you hooked a fish. What a great way to spend a day.

Must have been fishing one of the trophy creeks. Otherwise if you are releasing 16" fish I got NO PROBLEMS going fishing with you. Just release them in MY net, I got no problems gutting.

Anything big enough to keep is all you. I prefer restaurants for fish. :D
It was a private stretch of creek that he knows the owners of. Definitely a prime location.

under the bridge you should be fine. I've never heard of a problem with that.

Picked up some waders off CL yesterday, I'm all ready to go!
I've always wanted to get into fishing more. If only I had the time... maybe when I'm old.

Anybody here really good at fly fishing? I would love to get some help learning to cast.

I just learned recently but my teacher did a really good job. I was target casting within a couple of hours. I'm sure I can give pointers on at least the correct method. Could probably get you going somewhat well. I'm over in Snellville if you wanted to try ahead of time. You have a rod and reel setup yet?

Caught what was probably the only one in the first 15min. Spent 2 hours in the water till I realized I couldnt feel my feet. Eyes on rod kept getting plugged with ICE! It was pretty cool packing the lil ol fish in mountain snow though. Wife made fish and grits for dinner. My littlest had me laughing all night. I put the fish on her plate and she goes "Hi Fishey!" Nom nom nom nom nom. Ate most of the whole thing. I was crying I was laughing so hard.

Just let me know. Check Cabela's. They've been running some great prices on rods and reels. I got a package with a very nice reel and rod for $169 total. That also included a good sampling of flies, tools, DVD, tackle belt, lot of stuff. Definitely economical way to get into it.

I heard a rumor last night that the Cherokee Indians stock their rivers way over the federal limit. Anyone else confirm this?

Speaking of fishin' - whose catching some?
some of the best crappie fishing ive ever done was under bridges on Lake Lanier and Oconee. Fishing UNDER the bridge is fine, fishing FROM the bridge is a no no.

This is how I feel as well.
Off topic... I usually fish a bunch in TN when I go visit the fam.. never fished in GA... Are fish safe to eat out of Lanier? Especially Crappie?

You can eat the fish out of Lanier, just not in large volumes all the time. Just like anything else, Moderation is the key. There is so much water in there the harmful partuculates are dilluted.

Regular. Got all the bits for my fly fishing setup but not together and I haven't cast a fly rod in 15 years. Sat AM leaving ATL around 5:30am. Like to hit the mickey d's in Cleveland right after opening, quick stop at walmart for all that crap you forget about and new lure and then up the road. I can give maps.google url if your interested.

Sounds like fun. This would have been perfect too as my wife is out of town alas, I have no fly gear. I am planning a Trout fishing trip in AR in October.

I'm just using a regular rod with a really light (1/8oz) lure. Water is fast enough to carry the lure.

Still haven't hit limit but I did catch 5 today and had one more on the hook that jumped the line. One even jumped out of the water and tried to eat the eye on the end of the pole! Kinda scared me heh.
I'm going again on Sunday....
