Ok I went to Mt Adventures and was going to buy a Arai Helmet when I got there the salesmen was trying to sell me the ones they just got in as they just started to sell them there now.He said 649.95 +tax I was like WHAT!!!!
So Thank god for Internet on a phone Great stuff...I search it and I found many selling them from 325-375 bucks, and some other dealers for 500 bucks. I told him about it and he was like Ill match it.Match it No thanks , I asked you how much your selling them and you told me 650 bucks, and trying to rip me off that bad.No thanks Ill go else where.
WTF is it the salesmen or the company trying to get as much as they can off one customer????

$800 for a jacket? A Scorpion jacket no less? :wtf:
IF they can get MSRP off an item how can you blame them? They are there to make money. It is not their job to make sure you dont pay to much. Lucky you were smart and checked before your purchase.

Yea...I ended up getting his jacket for 280 I think. Have you seen the 1200 dollar Icon metal lord/head whatever. Apparently the deal with Mt Adv (from a customer of theres) Is if you are part of any bike group you just show your club card etc and they will give you the hook up. I dunno but personally I'd rather know how much I am paying for something all the time vs taking the gamble on the drive. The show room is really nice though and the sales staff at least acknowledged us.

Topgear in Athens wanted $75 for a oil and filter change on my 6r. Nothing else, just to change the oil and filter. And thats with non-synthetic!! I just started laughing and left.

$325 on an Arai helmet is probably a closeout on a previous year's model, but even the current ones can be had for less than $650 on the internet. I found my Corsair RX7 for $430 when it was new, which was about $100 cheaper than anywhere local.
One good place to shop locally is ValuCycle (http://www.valucycle.com/). Well, if Conyers is "local." :) They'll order anything you want for their cost +10%. Sometimes that's just average, and sometimes it's a really good deal. I don't know how much they charge for maintenance or repairs, but they do have a really good mechanic working for them.

That's what happens when people order online. Dealers can't afford to stock the good stuff so you can look at it. Even worse are the people who go use the dealer for exact fit and styles and then go order online.

That is crazy. It amazes me that you can get a complete oil and filter change in a car that uses much more oil, for around $30.
Who does have the best deals as far as fluid changes and just general maintenance in the area?

Keep in mind that that most places are breaking even or losing money when doing a $30 oil change on a car. IF they make money its a buck or two. $30 oil changes are to get you in the door and up sell you on scheduled maintenace, brakes etc... $75 bucks is high to you and I but once again the shop/dealer is trying to make a buck. Another reason to learn how to do it yourself.

I am one that would pay a little more to be able to look at it and try it on. Plus having it right away is better than waiting for it to ship.

Go to Durmatown which is next the Ford dealership. So much cheaper on everything. Do tires around 45 on the bike. Just got my tires from UPS today so I'm going there Friday to get them put on.

Hey, if they don't have the capital to be in business...maybe they SHOULD go out of business. I have heard this DA argument forever and it just doesn't hold water. I don't mind paying a little more for local, personal service but it's not my job to make sure you are not only competitive but also have inventory on hand. that's part of doing business.
Later,
Steve
im curious what the date codes are on those tires you got at such a deal.

What? I run an auto shop and I can tell you that while...yes...and oil change IS a loss-leader you are certainly not losing money. I pay 1.45 a quart for semi-synthetic 5w30, and 1.55 for ANY oil filter with a few exceptions. We pay our techs top dollar...28/hour and they get .2 for each oil change. That's a cost of 10.25 in parts (for 6 quarts) and 5.60 in labor or a total cost of 15.85...We sell at 29.95 and that's a margin of profit of about 48%. Almost every invoice has an oil change and we do about 100 per week. That times 52 weeks is a profit of 73,320.00....Not great, but I've seen worse.

The reason dealers can over charge is because there are plenty of people that dont check prices. I understand a dealer or most shops cant compete with online prices but alot of folks dont check at all. Dealers should have capital to be in business. the local Joe Blow guy might not have it right away or have the money to place a big order with a supplier. I remember Charlie from HFD1 getting shit for a deal he was running. Some argued he was doing it just to get a supplier order. Regardless, the consumer and the shop got a deal. The local Joe Blow guys that over charge dont stay in business long regarless of capital.
i remember that too, Brett, the the ones that got all pissy about it, IMO, showed their true character.

I thought it was great. Didnt understand why a shop and consumers couldnt get a good deal working together. Of course the ones not getting a deal were the bitchy ones. How is Charlie doing btw? I havent been by his shop in over a year.

I don't hold it against anyone to ask whatever they want for a product they sell. If they choose to live off the stupid ones that don't check around and that works for them then so be it. But if you choose to go into business without a plan and the capital to carry out your plan, no matter how large or small you are, you are just a poor businessman and you will fail, better now than later.

For the average person that just wants to maintain their car 30-35 dollars and have the fluids topped off and have the belts/hoses checked out plus tire pressures checked and tire wear noted etc. IT is a great deal, its not like 85 % percent of the average public gives a shit, only that there box cranks ands runs them to work each day.

I agree...it is a great deal. the time it takes to get the oil and filter then do it yourself you are better off paying the 30-35. Unless you are very strapped for cash and every dollar counts. Plus if you look in the Sunday paper in the sports section you can find $19.99 oil changes and sometime cheaper. Just watch out for when they hit you up for other repairs.

Get as many bikes out there as you have cars and you'll have the quantity that will justify 19.99 oil and filter changes. Of course you're going to have a lot more loose filters, loose drain plugs and so on.

Yep, it was just funny this thread reminded me of a conversation at a bar a couple weeks back. Dude had one place leave lugnuts loose, another place never put in oil... I'll pay $75 for my bike no problem if I'm not doing it myself.

Personally I have no problem with paying $75 but I find it like a stress relief to work on my own stuff. That alone makes it hard for me to pay $35 for someone else to do it. The only oil change I pay for is on the car my company pays for.

Since I am a manager for a fast lube service and that we agree for the price if done correctly and timely is a fair price and since I see you understand that at 19.99 or whatever is a BS price BECAUSE a legitment business could not provide that service and have a chance in HELL of keeping the doors open. Just say it for 20.00 your ass is getting screwd one way or the other......

Your post has me confused....yes...correctly and timely matter $20 bucks for LOF is a great deal and a business could not survive on just that. Your last sentence is what confuses me...am I the consumer getting screwed or you are the one getting screwed? If you fast lube only does $20 dollar LOF's and doesnt try to upsell air/cabin filters, fluic changes etc...then you are the one geting screwed.

I just don't trust "Oil Change Places", here's one reason why....
A few years ago after I totaled my Tundra I transfered the tag to my 4runner. A couple of years ago I took the 4runner to the local quick lube for an oil change. They had my tag # in their database from when I took the Tundra there for oil changes. Anyway, after I got the oil changed in my 4runner I looked at the printout. They had the tag # right but had the vehicle down as an '04 Tundra. I looked further down & noticed they had put in 1 quart too many, the right level for the Tundra but too much for the 4runner. Yes the tag was the same one that used to be on the Tundra but the vehicle was clearly different. They didn't even notice or care so I change it myself now

I use a dealer Tag and everytime I change oil on a car, the service station makes sure they tell me that "this is the same tag, and do you still have the other car".....Could be just that prticular service station.

I think what he's saying is that if you only pay $20, you are only getting $20 worth of service and/or product. Or less really, since they have to pay the tech that does it and the light bill etc. So when you get a $20 service at a quick oil change place, they are screwing you somehow. Junk filter, used oil . . .
ive been using the same oil change place for over 10 years. Developed a relationship with the owner. I guess it helps when he doesnt have a fast turnover rate of employees (i can only assume he pays them pretty good and treats them well). All the guys up there know me when i pull in. Never had a problem out of them, know quite a few that use them as well and all have good things to say about their service there.

except you can get the same GOOD oil/filters there that you can get anywhere else.

Where is this place you speak of?
Castol's Quick Lube on Honey Creek Road, intersection of Honey Creek and Ga. Hwy 20 South.
Chad Dupree here on the board has been getting his done there for years as well. They know him when he pulls up too. The guys that work there are just good guys that seem to care about their customers.
