I'm trying to hook up a 4 ch amp and subs to a Kenwood DNX5120. it's a Doub DIN DVD/NAV. I'm stuck because I'm not sure how to run the preamps. There are 3 sets, front, rear/sub, and audio/video out. The unit has sub controls built in so if I use the rear/sub out for anything but the sub, I'll be controlling everything hooked to those outs. If I split the rear/sub, I'll be controlling the rears and subs from the head unit. My only option splitting the rear/sub out is to leave the head unit sub setting so the rear speakers sound good and control the sub from the amp. if i split the front I don't think I'll get the stereo sound and I'll lose fader control and who knows what else. Anyone have any ideas? You would think a head unit like this would have dedicated sub outs. That's what I get for being cheap and buying used!

Out of all the car stereo's I've done... I've rarely amped rear speakers as they should really only be used for filler.

So typically, I leave rear speakers powered by the deck and only amp components up front and the subs. Might be the best alternative for you.

im surprised it doesnt have a seperate sub out as well, but a lot of the dvd screen units are like that for some reason. Like stated before just run the rears on the deck and put the rest on the amp. Otherwise put a splitter on if you dont mind losing your fading capabilities.

Or you can split the fronts. You will lose the fade option, but you might not care.

my excelon 911 had front rear and sub. if you had a amp that you could setup like my excelon 2/3/4/5 channel so you could run a set (l,r) of rcas to it and then the amp would use that to feed the amp like it had 2 sets of rcas. then adjust the amp gain to where you wanted the rears at. with the excelons i know you could control every thing the amp could do with the deck... if both were excelons.
