I was researching engine ice vs water wetter and came across a thread where someone mentioned a product better than both WW and EI. Its called Evans NPG (Non-aqueous Propylene Glycol - not Ethylene Glycol which is really slippery). I'm wondering if anyone has ever used it and is it allowed at the tracks. I know many tracks dont allow glycol based coolant but supposedly this is different.

Engine Ice is one of the best merketed snake oils available. Water Wetter works and works well. Engine Ice can cause cause problems if not installed correctly. If you have a cooling system problem, then fix the problem.

+1 for Water Wetter. Never had an issues using it and it's simple.
I've never heard of Evans.

NPG is illegal for the track. It's less slippery - but still too slippery. It is however an antifreeze unlike water wetter etc... Engine Ice is the same thing, propylene glycol. Some of the other companies are coming out with stuff that is the same as the original Water Wetter, Royal Purple has Purple Ice, Motul has Mocool, and so on.

Sometimes you don't have a cooling system problem, but are just asking something to operate outside of its designed variables.
I have used the Purple Ice many many times to get an older reefer to stay running out in Yuma and Phoenix. When used as directed, it will provide an 8-10 degree drop everytime. Using extra gains nothing.

Thanks Mongo. I was wondering if you could use it for the track.
I don't have a cooling problem. I was just wondering if anyone has heard of Evans because I've seen posters say it was better than WW but I've never heard of it.

Well, it is better than Water Wetter as an antifreeze - because WW will not prevent freezing. I'm not sure on the higher temps but that's where a properly working cooling system matters more than the liquid in it. WW does help on that score simply due to decreasing surface tension in the bubbles as the water is against the metal inside the engine.
