sound familiar? (and for the record, i hated w's stance too.)
i wish i lived in sc so i could vote against graham.
I am pretty ok with this part tho:
Citizenship would not be granted lightly, the White House said. Undocumented workers would need to register, pay taxes and pay a penalty for violating the law. Failure to comply might result in deportation.

I like the part about failure to comply MIGHT result in deportation. Trying to see where the gray area is on that one.
Outside of some sort of similar proposed plan, I really don't know what the realistic alternative is. Immigrants are here, and they're not going anywhere. Building a fence (lol) isn't going to solve a problem. You can't realistically round them all up, and even if you could, you can't keep them out.
I don't like the untaxed population of undocumented people getting civic benefits either, but I put myself in their shoes when their families can't eat or get clean water and there's more money to be made a few hundred miles north, legal or not. What are you going to do?
You might as well make it easier for them to comply with the law and begin paying taxes. I've admittedly hired a few cholos from the local gathering spots and some way better than others, but the one or two I spoke to for more than 2 minutes said they'd love to be able to get insurance for their cars and drive legally and pay taxes to ensure they can stay here, but there's no way for them to do it that isn't clogged for years.
If keeping them out in the first place is the alternative, how do you manage that? I haven't heard anything that doesn't mirror the "war on drugs" philosophy of churning enormous amounts of money into something with a relatively benefit of pennies (if that) on the dollar, and which is largely ineffective.

Give them a taxpayer ID and let em have at it. We've got bills to pay.
I like the part about failure to comply MIGHT result in deportation. Trying to see where the gray area is on that one.If they register to vote Republican or share any conservative ideals, they WILL be deported.

Pretty much.

this is fine and dandy, but the bill should fix the immigration process as it should not take 7-12 years just to get a resident alien card... otherwise we still will have people crossing the border because of the lowsy system we have and the people managing it....

How about we just quit wasting time
Militarize the border; turn it into a sniper training ground.
Go out a good ways place signs and speakers to tell them if you cross the line you’re on your own.
It’s an invasion
If someone breaks into your house and said I’m staying in your living room and I’m not leaving.
You would shoot them. How is this any different?
I don’t have to look at from their side, where you’re born is a genetic and geographic lottery. You could be bill gates kid or destitute in some back water crap hole.
Don’t invade my country cause yours sucks.
That’s my thoughts on the mater
At the end of the day I can agree to disagree, but they don’t belong here

I wouldn't shoot them. I don't think I'm the only one. And the fact is, they mostly come here and work and pay for their own lodging so it's not like they have just squatted in the living room.

with the well known exceptin of taxes and healthcare, they dont pay for those things
that said taxes is kinda moot, I doubt many make enough to even have to pay

We don't have enough snipers to even protect the border of Florida, much less the rest of the country. And the people who live on the border or enjoy it aren't going to like it very much if President Obama decides to seize a 5 mile wide swath of the entire border. You think people are complaining about a dictatorship now? You let the President try that. That's really a ridiculous idea. A fantasy.

This is perfect timing for JD Hayworth. Wonder where John McCain will come down on this one? Hmmmm :)
Not enough snipers??? It's called a hunting license.
I say we turn the fuggin tables and annex the States that share a border with the U.S. Think of the nice beaches we would get. The border fence would be much shorter the farther down we go...

If they are being paid legitimately, not under the table undocumented payments, then they pay into the medicare/medicaid and SS systems. If they rent property, part of that rent goes to pay property taxes. They pay sales taxes. If we chose to, we could make them part of the system, collect taxes from them and their employers and help alleviate some of that burden.

Who the hell's gonna pay an illegal alien legitimately?

As long as people pay taxes I don't care where they are from. In fact, if they paid MORE taxes I'd be happy.

DING! We should be making life rough. Harshly penalize people who employ them, remove public assistance, not allow their children in our schools, etc... I would not refuse medical care for them.
