When it comes to the high-end helmetcam game, GoPro (http://www.engadget.com/tag/gopro) and Contour (http://www.engadget.com/tag/contour%7Ccontourhd) seem to have the market cornered. Contour was first to bring 1080p to your headgear of choice, and now it's the first to add GPS in to the mix. (GoBandit started talking about doing the same back in February (http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/16/gobandit-gps-hd-action-camcorder-captures-your-exploits-top-spe/), but we're still waiting on that to become a reality.) The $349 ContourGPS still offers the same video specs as the $279 ContourHD 1080p we reviewed this time last year (http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/29/vholdr-contourhd1080p-helmet-cam-announced-we-go-hands-on/), but now when sharing your videos you can also embed a real-time map view. Read on for more details, and a look at the UI.

Built on Google Maps (http://www.engadget.com/tag/googlemaps), Contour will launch a ContourGPS community where users can upload videos. When embedded those videos will display the position, altitude, and speed next to the footage so that friends can find their way to the same bunny slope you were shredding with the nü metal backing track, or calculate just how long it took you to hit terminal velocity after taking that first big step out of a perfectly good airplane. GPS coordinates are captured at 1hz intervals -- too slow for perfectly accurate lap times at the track, but good enough for most outdoor pursuits.

Look for the ContourGPS to start showing up on high-end helmets within the next week or so.

I wonder if their slogan is "letting the popo know exactly where you go!" :D

I think Im sold on this one now. I was debating between the 2 cams a couple weeks ago. But, was leaning towards the contour, since it seemed a little smaller than the Go pro

go pro has better video quality and def sound IMO

I think the vholdr has the same video, especially when you set the bitrates the same, these things probably share the same cmos chip, but the vholder seems to have much better sound

actually i think you have that reversed. the go pro has much better audio

most reviewers disagree, the gopro enclosure hurts the audio

the biggest advantage the vholdr has is all the tweaks you can do in the config file

ask the vhold users here then. they will tell you the audio sucks

I have one, audio works good on mine, it's my 4th helmetcam setup

the only thing I would upgrade to, is one with a CCD sensor or much better vibration reduction, something done in hardware via cropping, both the gopro and vholder suffer rolling shutter softness in details

i had the go pro hd and audio was amazing with the vented back on it. I sold it due to not being able to get rid of high freq vibration on the vtwin

no exp with the vhold but i do remember dzone and squire both saying the audio sucked
