Anyone know where a installer would locate a fuse to power up a aftermarket DVD player? It was installed at Circuit City so I can't call them. There is no power at the feed wires.

I've already checked and verified all the fuses in the driver side kick panel and the fuse panel in the engine compartment.

Thanks

Two places it could be... First check 'Lighter' fuse, second under the hood there is also a radio fuse. If its not one of those it could be a fuse
behind the radio. Which wire doesn't have power, Ignition or Constant?

Only two wires that supply voltage. One is chassis ground and I'd assume the other is constant? They didn't hook up the dome light option. The other wires pokes through the roof liner are two RCA plugs for Audio to be played via the stereo system.

If it was installed a CC, then they should have used an adapter harness that plugs into the factory harness. Resulting in no extra wiring to the fuse panel. Thats is, if they did things on the up and up. Most modern cars don't have power full time to the radio and only go hot once the key is in the ignition, or once the ignition is turned into it's first position. If you haven't checked with that done, give that a try.

im assuming you had an aftermarket dvd player with a seperate screen or screens installed ie: headrests, overhead screen. If thats the case a power inverter is installed alot of times with an amp kit to supply its power. If thats the case there should be an inline fuse somewere on the power supply line. If thats not the case and you are refering to an in dash headunit with built in dvd player/screen then if you pull that out theres a small fuse actually on the unit itself.

If your not getting power to it, it could be several things though, bad ground connection all the way to a dead unit. If all your fuses are good may need to have it diagnosed somewere.

im a retired bestbuy installer and used to hate the dvd setups because alot of them did not hold up a long time and would have some kind of issue.

btw what calimus said is actually incorrect, the majority of cars DO have continuous power to the radio all the time. They just have a signal or switched power wire that also runs to the radio to up the amount of power being sent to cut it on when the key is turned. If you did not have continuous power to a radio all the time then your presets and other setting you have on your radio would not stay saved.

Fair point, not sure what the hell I was thinking. Should not be posting at 2am.

Now that you gave more information, since it was not a indash style, the best thing to do would be test it with a power source to see if the unit went bad. But BigB is right, they don't hold up well over time, but if you don't have power on the wire you're going to have to trace it backwards, if your lucky you'll find an inline fuse. I'd start at the door jam on the side the wires run towards.

Fuse located behind the glove box assembly.
I accidentally put a screw through the power wires when I installed the new mounting bracket.
$50 bucks and two hours later at Best Buy I've got power again.
Thieves suck.
Lesson learned, when mounting these overhead units use hex head and not Phillips head. I'm even going as far to strip out the heads of my mounting hardware for the bracket.

i hope i did not come off as a jerk in my post, i did not intend it that way.

Ohio - glad it worked out for you and that all it was was a fuse.
