In all of my years of filing taxes I've never seen it take 4 weeks to get a refund when e-filed. Not only that but I've never seen then change the dates on when you are supposed to get your refund. Was supposed to get my money today and its not there so I check the status and its been pushed back to 23rd. :wtf: I wonder if this is all Obamas fault?

Got mine in 2.5 weeks at teh end of January. Once you wait the line gets longer, if you are going to get a refund you should file asap. We always file right after we get our w2s.

Btw, I dont care about getting it late, thats OK, but don't say its going to be here on X date and then push it 2 weeks ahead. I could understand another 3-5 days but 2 weeks? Am I going to get it then or will they say 2 more weeks?

This is why you should aim to not get a refund ;)
Loaning your gov`t money isn't really a good idea.

I agree and I do try to balance my paycheck with the expected tax but being out of work for most of the year, moving, house, kids, donation, etc we ended up getting a decent return.

Waiting for K1 from my bean counter. We might be able to show a loss this year, which is actually a good thing, taxwise.

This is true, but we use the money yearly to do home projects. Almost like a lazy mans savings account. I looked at withdrawing the money into a money market account and the money gained from interest wasnt worth the hassle.

Yup, I'll be paying Federal and State this year. Won't do it until the day of. But I'm not going to complain. Since its all from my company, at least it shows I made a profit. And I didn't send them anything the rest of the year. ;)

And Laz, they did the same thing to me last year. Must be nice to be the government and screw with people at will.

neither does a money market or any other account these days. I prefer to get my large check back at the end of the year instead of having it little by little through the year and me just spending it. Now if you could take that extra and actually place it into something, which I won't, that actually makes some interest, which nothing does these days, then it might make sense! In todays climate I'd rather just let them have the free loan!

What happens when they send out IOUs instead of checks?

What happens when they send out IOUs instead of checks?

And what happens when banks stop accepting IOUs?

Exactly. I'm betting a lot of people in California wish they had tried to work their taxes out closer so they could hold the money instead of the state.

Yup, just making up the fact that states give bad IOU's...

And with the current administration and economic situation we are in it is a HUGE stretch to think the federal gov't might think about doing the same thing .

Dan43

what does state taxes have to do with federal?Nothing other than in both cases if you are getting a refund, you are letting the government use your money for a year and have no guarantee that they will give it back.

I got a sizable refund last year because I had deductions (closing costs) that I do not normally get to take. I will get another this year because at the start of the year I was not sure of exactly how much my normal deductions would be in the new house compared to the old house. Now that I have a years expenses to budget I have adjusted my withholding and should just about break even when I file next year.

Nah, I know they gave out bad IOUs. Its possible the federal government could get to that point but the difference between state and federal is state has balanced budget amendments and the Fed doesnt (which it should), it can just borrow money.

like I said I have no issue with letting them have a int free loan for the year. You can't make any money off of it if you invest it anyway so what's the difference. i would rather have 1 large check than a few dollars extra in my pay check that I would just blow.
