Since i had nothing to do a couple months back my buddy asked me if i can make him a gun rack.
Not knowing really anything about gun racks i got out my gun aka $150 Daisy from wal-mart and made a gun rack some what according to it and what i have shot in the past. And this was the end result.

Personaly i dont think its that bad for a first attempt...lol

i made it for him as a birthday gift but he didnt want to accept it and he asked me howmuch i paid for the stuff and i told him it was all scrap laying around haha.. he ended up giving me $150 for it.. so i ended up buying him an expensive bottle of wiskey for his birthday .. offcorse i used the money he gave me for the rack.. haha since plan one as a gift failed.. lol

how much do you think it would cost just to build the left half (left of the vertical support)?

talking about the "long rifle side".. material alone prob be around $50.. i use 1-1/4 metal tubing for the frame and the base is i think 8" wood.. with a lip on it so the guns dont slide out.. i dont really have the tools to do alot of wood work.. so it takes time for me to do the notches and all that and make it atleast decent..if u give me a size of how wide u want it to be and about how many guns u want to hold on the rack then i can go by that and give u a ball park on price...(this one u want will prob start out around $100 and go up depending on what u want on it)

I do know gun racks arnt cheap.. but if u are interested for real then i can scrap up the material cost and then basictly tell me what all u want on the rack..(just wood, or u want felt in the grooves or any add ons like weld tabs, paint, varnish, etc)

I am interested. Let me take some measurements of the space this week and I will be in touch to "place an order". Since this is something you would be doing on the side any chance you could give a ballpark time frame on turnaround?

Looks good! Piece of advice, get some felt and spray adhesive and line the slots for the barrels (or cover the whole thing if you like).. I like the look of the wood on top, though.

haha trust me i wanted to do felt on there and stuff.. but my buddy didnt want felt so i used a soft wood..the only thing extra on the rack is the boots at the bottom to level it out if u got an unstable place.. and he wanted some weld tabs in the back to screw it to the wall..

sounds good with me.. when ever you are ready.. its kinda hard to give u a price .. so ill just do what we do with everything els.. ill do the rack for cost of material time 2 and a 1/2.. so if material cost $50 then the price of the rack will be $125.. if material cost $100 then price of the rack will be $250.. but i can tell you now if the rack is going to be smaller than the one in the pic and all parts are about the same then it will be less than $100 in material...

just looking for something basic to organize the closet. the rack would need to be only 24 inches wide. just something to hold about 7 or 8 long guns. the top cross piece for the barrels would need to be no higher than 36 inches from the base to accommodate my shortest rifle, a 10/22.

let me know on the price and i will decide.

lets do it.

can you put a horizontal slot on it somewhere so I can mount it to wall studs and not have to worry about placement? figure on the slot being only large enough to put some drywall screws through:up: Is that possible at the same price or is there another provision you had in mind to mount it to the wall?

i normaly just put on weld tabs with holes in it.. that can go into the dry wall.. but if u want to do it to some studs.. i could just do one weld tab in the middle that way u got one bolt going into a stud.. other option is i can put light gauge flat bar on it.. and if u want u can drill holes in that where u want it to be.. just let me know ill start on everything tomorrow.. and see what i can come up with..

i suppose some tabs would be fine and I can use drywall anchors but I would prefer to anchor it into wall studs.

in the first picture above will show you 2 rails going across, you can use these rails to hold your screws since all studs arnt the same (even though they are suppose to you know how builders are) just use a long enough screw and a washer and you can place the screws anywhere inbetween the 2 rails going laying horizontal..

Nice to meet you and thank you for making and delivering the rack:up: It worked out well. If you make another one, some tilt on the bottom shelf and perhaps some felt or rubberized cover would enhance your design IMO. Take care and thank you again:up:

thank you for your input.. ill keep that in mind.. i dont own a gun so i cant go by any model haha.. great thanks though again and hope it works out well for you.. the lip in the front is what i used on the other rack to put the bud off the gun on so its kinda at an angle.. but in the future ill just make the whole thing at an angle.. thanks again..
